Verizon Cloud app using hugh amounts of data

At the suggestion of a Verizon Technical Support employee, I took my LG G3 phone to be looked at by a Verizon rep last night due to unexplained data usage overages.  The rep found that the Verizon Cloud app is constantly trying to update which in turn showed usage of 5.5GB of data in 12 days!  The rep only checked back to February 20, 2015.  I suppose this explains why I'm continually going over my data allowance even when turning off data?  The Verizon store rep said this is a technical issue as he didn't what to do.  The Verizon Technical Support employee who I spoke with was to follow up with me at 8am this morning and I'm still waiting for his call.  Can someone please lead me in the right direction.  Thank you!

Verizon Cloud and Google Plus can use up all your data in a New York second. Verizon Cloud is likely backing up everything on the phone, video is especially large file size. Go into the settings or preferences of Verizon Cloud to configure what is being backed up. I've stayed away from Verizon Cloud and Google Plus myself.

I agree that that Verizon Cloud is a terrible application.  There are other issues with it besides this that cause a data overload but here are some things to check.

1. Make sure Backup Assistant Plus is not installed on the same device as the Cloud.  If it is, Do a Force Stop in Application Manager and disable it. BAP is mainly for Contact backup and will not backup pictures or videos but will cause duplicate backed up files.

2. The cloud has the ability to backup information from other sources that share the same account such as computers, other phones and tablets.  Therefore, check to make sure those files are not duplicated in the Cloud.  Even though Cloud states that it will not duplicate files, it does.  I was on the phone for several hours at the highest levels in tech support that finally admitted there is a problem.

3. If you have a desktop version of Cloud installed, I highly recommend uninstalling it.  Unlike your phone, there is no ability to select the files you wish to backup after installation and therefore, your storage is quickly maxed out thereby creating upgrade messages.

Hope that helps.

And Verizon cloud needs network connection, even though it's supposed to use wifi to backup.

Which is why I use other services to backup my information.

contacts are synced and saved with Google

my settings and other information are saved to my google account.

documents are saved in Google drive

photos and video are auto loaded to my DropBox account.

The only thing you lose is text messages and call log.
