Been waiting for months for the 2.1 or 2.0 update.  and nothing.  No straight answers on anything.  Pretty sad that as much as we pay a month for service and pay for phones and lock ourselves down to a contract and cant get updates until 3 or 4 upgrades have come out. 1.5 on the eris.  LOL  Its like they have us locked down so no need to service us.  its all about how to get a new customer and who cares about the current customers.  How if your a new customer you get special promo's but if you are a long time customer they just dont care.  on wireless or the wire line service with them is the same.

I called last week and Verizon told me that on March 23rd we would have the N1 coming out.  then the eris will get an update this month.  I called back tonight.  and no clue about the 23rd of march and the N1.  Then the update will be by May 30th.

Why mention an update at all and just surprise us all.  That way we dont get sick of waiting.  Why mention on the google site that the N1 is coming soon.  Just mention it when its released.  Or if they do tell there is an update or new phone coming out then give the date of what to expect.

If they dont have info in the next few weeks then Iphone and AT&T here i come.

[edit]

  • HTC/Google Have released the APK a while ago, it's Verizon that is currently testing it out to be released.
  • Verizon/HTC has stated that 2.1 would be released in the first quarter of the year. For intents and purposes, we are still in Febuary for the love of Merlin. Far from being out of the frist quarter of the year.
  • When you do get 2.1, let me reassure you that the UI differences are minimum to say the least. You will not be getting full 2.1, as only "Google Experience" phones have the space to do that.
  • The Eris was announced about three months ago. With Android as it's OS, LAYERED with HTC SENSE UI, which takes time for it be updated. There's more than just sticking an APK that has 2.1 on the Eris. It's like taking a dog and trying to fit him through a mouse hole. Not gonna happen.

I'm not going to delve into details anymore about this, as it's tremendously tiring to see posts like this because you could have just as easily typed "eris update" in the search and find ample posts giving you your answer.

Either way threatening your money to go to the iPhone only proves how silly this whole situation really is...

{please keep your posts courteous}

That's it. I'm going to buy an iPhone if I don't get an update that has never had an official release date and Verizon isn't even obligated to give me.  They said the end of the first quarter and I'm so **bleep** we don't have it 5 weeks ahead of time.

In all seriousness, all they've said is the end of the 1st quarter.  That's all they need to tell us.  They're not required to say anything more than that.  They weren't even required to say that.  When March comes and goes and we still don't have it, you can gripe then.  Until then, sit back and be patient.  We're lucky to be getting an update at all, they didn't have to give us anything.

Not really.  I waited four years to upgrade my phone.  I'll probably wait another four years to replace my Droid.  I also bought the Droid instead of waiting for the N1.  I have 2.0 and don't see a need to rant and rave about 2.1.

Four years or four months, if all you needed is a phone, you wouldn't have bought a smartphone with a mandatory $30 per month data plan. You bought a Droid because it's a highly capable feature packed device. You're right though, 2.0 to 2.1 isn't much of a jump, but we Eris owners have alot to look forward to. And yet I'm still not ranting.

Dude, I'm not going to argue with you.  I got a Droid because I wanted it.  I think after 4 years I can get whatever I want.  I'm not someone who feels like I always need the best and latest of everything.

Phones are so cheap now (on contract), why not have the latest and greatest?  You can always give your old phones to friends or family members.

You're missing the point of my post.  The guy has a Droid and is **bleep** because the N1 is not out yet and he doesn't have 2.1 yet.

Oh Boy does this topic get everyone hot!

Listen people, the long and short of this is we need to listen to reason, Supitsmike hit the nail on the head and summed it up perfectly...

All the sources we have say Q1 which still has a little over a month left in it. Being an Eris owner, I want this update as bad as anyone else but getting angry only affects ourselves.

We know its coming and no amount of screaming is gonna speed up the process! I'd rather it work the first time and testing helps ensure that!
