Texting and battery issues, LG G2

My wife and I both have the LG G2 and ever since the update to Android 4.4.2, we have been experiencing major battery drain along with slow sending texts. This was never the case before the update.

My G2 works just fine. In anything my battery lasts LONGER. The 4.4.2 update was released 6 months ago. Did you do the 2 recent updates? If this phone gets updated again it probably won't be 4.4.4 they'll probably go straight to 5.0 so maybe a  few more months.

Whatever updates have been available we have done. I did some looking and there are quite a few people having the same or similar issues, especially with the battery.

Using the instructions on the page linked below, try running your phones in safe mode. This will let you both know whether or not its one of your respective downloaded apps that is causing a problem with the new update. If your issue doesn't persist in safe mode, you can begin to look into which app is causing the problem, which can be a daunting task.

JerryC48146,

I am sorry to hear you are having issues with your battery and sending text. If you go into Settings>Battery>Tap the top area where is says "Discharging", what shows to be using the most of your battery? Also have you tried the wonderful suggestion from nicholasbranson and run the device is safe mode?

It is showing for a combined 25% that it is Android draining the battery. We never had any issues until the last Android update. Now texts aren't sending immediately, they sit there thinking for a while and then send.

I have been having the same issues for a few weeks now and did the upgrade when it came out as well. I've had texts sitting and "sending" for up to 10 minutes before actually going through. And then when I check the info on texts I've received it can be up to 10 minutes between the time it was sent and time it was received.

Did anybody ever get an ACTUAL ANSWER to this issue (slow sending of texts - shortly after an update)?  I am having that issue with my LG G2 after the update (Dec2014/Jan2015).

I've been chastised for this advice, but as I reset my device to factory settings after each update and/or every 3 months on principle of a clean phone, I have not had many of these issues.  If I had any issues I had after a factory reset I had Verizon replace the phone under warranty.

That is sage advice. Unfortunately, updates cannot be coded to anticipate every device configuration, and some things just don't end up working properly unless a Factory Data Reset is performed. There are people that perform FDRs before taking an OTA.

On some devices, but I don't think the LG G2 is one of them, there is a way to enter recovery and do a low-level cache clear that can sometimes be successful in avoiding the more drastic FDR.

One potential option is for someone to enter the Settings | Manage applications, scroll to the texting app and clear it's cache. That MIGHT work.

Backing up personal content and restoring it and setting up a phone following a FDR is a PITA for sure, but if you experience issues that are bizarre, that action post-update often remedies the problems.
