I have been having problems with my Samsung Stratosphere (1) for the past couple of weeks. It turns off by itself and when I try to turn it back on and get onto one of my apps or to even text it shuts down again. It is very frustrating, and I was wondering if there was any way to stop it?
Happened to me. Try removing the battery, then reinserting it. Frustrating, but it should work.

What an odd occurrence. But, to be honest, I've kind of got a good inkling of what it might be. A lot of times when we have power cycling devices or when apps won't open, it tends to be a product of a troubling app. So, I'd recommend enabling safe mode http://vz.to/1s13Nm . That will disable third party apps. If your phone acts normally, please remove apps and test again. If not, let us know so we can plot a new course of action.
