Samsung Continuum adding +1 when replying to some text messages

I have a problem with Samsung Continuum adding +1 when replying to text messages from AT&T numbers.  When it does this, my messages don't go through.  If I start a new text message and send it to the same number (without the +1) it works fine.  Is there any way to stop this from happening?  It's a pain in the butt when I can't response to a message without creating a whole new message.

Thanks!

Are you using a third-party messaging app, such as Handcent, or are you using the stock messaging option? If using third-party, I recommend deleting that app, and trying to send using just the stock application to see if you are able to respond to AT&T customers that way. I would also like to confirm whether it is ONLY AT&T customers, or if there are numbers from other providers as well. Either way, if you are incurring this error from the stock messaging application, additional troubleshooting needs to be done. You can PM me with your wireless and a contact number, or feel free to reach us from an alternate phone (not your wireless) at 1-800/922-0204 and we will be happy to assist further.

Thanks,

I just got my Samsung Continuum a month ago and I have the same problem. Some of my contacts (just like 5 or 6) my phone constantly puts a +1 in front of their number (example +1-555-555-5555 instead of just 555-555-5555) and then I can't send, or receive texts from them. In my phone they're saved without the +1 one, but as soon as I try to text them my phone adds it in. Again, this is only with SOME contacts. Other don't have the +1, never did, and I can send an receive texts from them just fine. I can also call any of those people with the +1, just not text them unless I enter their number manually and delete the messages after they reply and start all over again. Someone told me it had to do with the way they're synced with google or facebook, so I took facebook off of my phone, deleted the contacts that had the +1 and added them to my phone again and the same thing happened. Also, a lot of them aren't even in my google contacts, so that was a dead end too. No idea if it's only people with a certain provider or not. Please help! :smileysad:

I am having this same problem and I was on the phone with Verizon for an hour yesterday syncing/unsyncing, etc. We thought we resolved it finally, but an hour later it was doing it again, adding +1 and recipient not receiving my reply text messages. This is only happening with one of my contacts so far, that I know of.. I anyone can figure out how to resolve this, please let me know. It is driving me crazy!!!!

Jesseeann and Lauievs, thanks for your inquiries. You mentioned deleting the contact and readding, did you also delete any previous SMS threads with those contacts? I would suggest trying that also, and then testing sending an SMS again.

Has anyone solved this yet? My wife is having the same problem with her phone. We can't track down the exact cause and it means that she is unable to message me from her phone even though it works fine sending to other people.

Could it be related to my phone? It's a Verizon iPhone. Or could it be related to the fact that my phone number is in my Facebook profile, and that gets pulled in? I ask that because facebook automatically adds a country code to its stored profiles.

I hope someone already has figured this out. We're using the stock messaging program.
