I switched to Droid from BlackBerry, and must say I'm experiencing a bit of BB withdrawl - typing just isn't as easy on the Droid. Google Navigate is cool though.
The main issue I have (and this did not happen w/ BB I assume due to RIM or VZ BB infrastructure), even though my e-mail client is setup to check for new mail every 5 minutes (IMAP via SSL) - when the device is asleep - there is no indication of waiting mail - I must wake the device, open mail, and select refresh to check for new messages - same for my gmail account app - this is terrible!
SMS messages appears to come in immediately even when device is sleeping.
I'm guessing the e-mail apps aren't checking for new mail while the device is sleeping - that really is a bummer - is there a setting for this?

Under wireless settings > mobile network settings - Is enable always-on mobile selected?
Also, under Data synchronization - Is background data selected?
