If you want to have prepaid with a smartphone, you need to use the prepaid monthly plans for smartphones. The $50 plan is for basic phones only.

Only basic phones go with a prepaid plan. Android phones ALL require a data plan starting at $30 for 2GB. An android plan usually hovers around $100 for all features which come with the phone and you can not get out of. Plus, all android phones requier some sort of plan, either idividual or family plan.
Others have pointed out the requirement of a data plan with an Android phone. I'm curious why you'd want an Android phone without a data plan. You wouldn't even be able to download new apps without an online connection, i.e., a data plan.
many people would like to get a smart phone that they would only be able to use on wifi for data services. they don't exist, but i sort see why some people think they may. i've seen people on the forum that don't quite understand why they can't just get a smartphone and only use data via wifi. i admit that it would be a nice option, but it will never happen.
Just get one of these (see link) and a basic phone.

Yeah..that's what I wanted to do. Paying $30 a month for a data plan makes no sense to me when I'm already paying $75 for wifi at my home. I have no idea how people make/meet $80+ phone bills, but I sure can't. Thanks for your answer.
Thanks a lot guys. Guess I'm stuck with AT&T.
I wish you didn't edit your original post. Now the entire thread doesn't make any sense.
