Need Help Syncing Hotmail with Droid Eris

I'm following the instructions to a T using the POP3 instructions, and all I ever get is the "expired newsletter," and then no further emails.  I even contacted Windows Live Mobile, and they gave me the same instructions Verizon does.  Is there any way to sync my Hotmail account?  Or do I need to make a choice between getting a Gmail account or a different phone?  Thanks!

POP 3 does not "Sync"  it simply downloads emails.  It also only downloads new emails.  After setting up your account, have you tried sending yourself a new email to see if that email is downloaded?

IMAP actually "syncs" with existing mail, I don't know if hotmail supports IMAP or not, I know Gmail does, but with Android you wouldn't wnat to use IMAP anyway, since it is fully integrated with the actual gmail client.

You should consider switching to Gmail, or forwarding your hotmail email to Gmail, since Gmail/Android are a "Push Mail" combination, meaning you don't have to wait for your phone to go check for messages, instead Gmail notifies your phone as soon as a new email arrives.  It's a much more efficient arrangement.

If you continue to have problems, I suggest downloading K9 Mail from the Market and give that a try.  Most of HTC's supplied programs are quirky, at best...  (I personally have tried the "beta" verson of K9 and it works well with several different imap and pop3 accounts.)

I have had problems retrieving email from hotmail with the standard email program supplied on the phone.  The application would stop working and ask for a "force close".  I talked with Verizon support and Motorola level 2 support and they told me to do a hard wire reset and, if that didn't work, to return the phone.  Someone in the forum mentioned K9 Mail.  I installed this and it works perfectly.  It is a much more robust program than the email program supplied.  Look for it in the Market.  It is free.  What a relief.  Why nobody in technical support at Verizon or Motorola mentioned this is frustrating.
