Mysteriously increased data usage on Galaxy phones

Off an on over the last two years we have experienced periods of extremely increased data usage. We've even switched phones since then so it's not the phones. Just 2 months ago, our 4 (3 Note3/1 S4) lines used around 8gb of data. Last month, with a total of 6(added 2 S4 minis) lines, usage was about 16/17gb. This month, we're already at about 7gb with 24 days left in our cycle.

The most odd thing is that the increased usage occurs while on wife (like .5gb at 6:55 am or .78gb at 7:18 pm) The increased usage occurs consistently on one line. Last month it was 5gb for the entire cycle, 6 days in it's already at 3.5. Ironically, the phone they charge with the most usage is used significantly less than several of the other lines.

Does anyone else think this is odd or is it just me? I have 30gb for 6 phones and we barely use half. I'm worried we may actually go over this month. What is even more aggravating is that Customer Service can't tell you anything, neither can the reps in the store. I know we aren't the only ones, this issue is to wide-spread for NOONE to be able to answer why!!!

And NO, nothing is being done differently. Background data is restricted (even though it's annoying), apps only update on WiFi, etc. I'm not very computer literate, but I know how to check for usage and what I'm being charged is no where near what I use. I also have an obsolete priced plan so I can't just add and subtract gb (heck I shouldn't have to!!!). It's actually cheaper for me to pay overages fees (up to 6). I refuse to let Verizon force me to change my plan again.

Go to settings-data-  in this screen there will be a slot that says data cycle.  change that cycle to match your bill cycle.  below that there will be a graph.  slide one white bar all the way to the left and one all the way to the right.  once that is done below the graph will show you whats app is using what data and this will help you better understand whats using up your data and why

We've been through that with customer service. I don't have the phone with

me to look at but last time Android OS was using quite a bit more data than

everything else on the phone. There are no games or many apps either. I

can't even wrap my head around how someone who gets up at 6:30 am uses .5gb

of data at 6:55 at when they are busy getting ready for work and not even

touching their phone.
