Missing photos after Lollipop update on Samsung S4

I updated to Lollipop 5.0.1 on my Samsung S4.  I cannot find about 400+ pictures that were on my phone before the update.

Anyone have an idea where they went?

Update are meant to improve your phone not cause you headache. I completely understand how frustrating this must be for you. Did you notice the picture were delete right after the update? Was a specific picture folder deleted or was it just random pictures? Were the pictures saved on the memory card or the phone's memory?
