LG Spectrum - Bluetooth disconnects when phone is idle.

I have the LG Spectrum with the following Version:

Android 4.0.4

Kernel - 3.0.8-perf

Build - IMM76D

Software Version VS920ZV8

I have a Scala Rider Bluetooth motorcycle head set.  This head set fits on a helmet.  I can get it to connect no problem and it works fine, but after a period of time, the connection dropps so even when I get calls in the head set does not remain connected.  I have used this head set with a Facinate in the past and did not have this problem.  It seems as if the phone goes to sleep and if the connection does not "refresh" regularly it just goes to sleep.  I notice that when I do pull out my phone the bluetooth icon is white instead of blue indicating it has a connection.

Has anyone else seen this and is there anything we can do to keep this from happening.  Does me no real good to have the head set paired with the phone if it doesn't want to remain connected due to it going to sleep.
