As in any country, dialects rule. However, there is a basic language that everyone can understand. In China, Mandarin Chinese, also called Simple Chinese, is understood from Manchuria to Hong Kong. Google Translate, as I stated, is the one I use. And it's free.

I use "Translate" and find it very helpful. I might also suggest going to Play store and searching for Chinese translators. Hao yun.

Have you searched the Play Store for any applications?  Also you should be more specific with which Chinese language you want translate.  I believe the main language is actually called Mandarin.

Thank you.  I will check out the Play Store as I have never been there.  I am not sure which dialect I need.  I often deal with customers from the Chinese mainland and I am looking for a fast way to communicate with them. A friend has an app for her Iphone that she can speak English to and it translates in to Italian and then translates the reply back to English.  I don't want to change phones but if I can find such a program I may.
