International: Says I have signal but data and voice do not go through

I am travelling for work in the UK and the service through verizon is abysmal!  My phone says I have good signal but my messages seem to get stuck and calls don't go through and everything is exceedingly slow.  How do I fix this!  I need my phone to actually work here.  I keep putting it into airplane mode and back on, which appears to help, but only for a short while even when I'm in the same area.  Does anyone else have these issues while travelling internationally

We certainly want you to stay connected while traveling, lady_engineer! When connected to a foreign network, services can differ from when you are at home. Depending on what phone you have you may be able to change what network you are connected to. Are you still in the UK and experiencing trouble? What make and model phone do you have?

Yes, I'm still in the UK and yes I am still experiencing major issues!  I have an LG G7.  Please help!  I will need to be here through September and it's driving me crazy!
