ICS on Stratosphere?

Sorry if this has been discussed. Have done several web searches in reference to a version of ICS for stratosphere. Conflicting reports. The version is doen but not released/approved by carrier. version is done but glitches with this model. version will not be released ever as this unit is not to be supported. This unit was a stop gap phone till nexus went live. So many reports any official word from Verizon?

Thanks for that link, Ann. I'd been skeptical about getting ICS for my Stratosphere, and this seems to confirm my skepticism. Ah, well. I figure that a year and a half from now when I'm eligible for a new phone I'll excitedly get one with, shall we say, Android Jelly Bean, only to have upgrades to Kumquat Kandy appear and once again be stuck with an antique. I've learned to take my lumps when buying technology.

I spoke with a Samsung rep in a live chat today. Here was the text:

Suzanne:  Hi, thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. How may I help you today?

Visitor:  I'm inquiring about the SCH-i405, the Stratosphere. I wanted to know if and when it will be updated with Android Ice Cream Sandwich. No one has posted any information about future updates for this device.

Suzanne:  I will be more than happy to provide you that information.

Suzanne:  Unfortunately, as of now there is no official information on the release date of the Android 4.0/Ice Cream Sandwich from Samsung and you will be notified by the carrier and in the Samsung website when/if the update is released. We are unable to speculate when/if a software revision might be available due to the fact that this might lead to inaccurate information and confusion.

Suzanne:  y performing hard reset most of the issues get resolved.

Suzanne:  I am sorry for the typo.

Suzanne:  When an update is made available, this support page will contain information on how to obtain the update and however you will get a notification on to your device if it's an over the air update.

Visitor:  I don't have any issues with my device, so I don't need to reset. So there is a chance that the device will never get the ICS update correct?

Suzanne:  Unfortunately, there is no specific ETA mentioned for the release of the software at this moment, once the release is official you can find it on Samsung website.

Visitor:  A simple yes or no will do. Is there a possibility that the Samsung Stratosphere will never be upgraded to ICS?

Suzanne:  I apologize, the Android 2.2 upgrade software is not yet released for your device in U.S officially at this moment and hence there is no relevant information or support available for the same.

Suzanne:  I am sorry for the typo.

Suzanne:  Android 4.0*.

Suzanne:  I understand you anxiety, but we do not have information about release of future update.

Visitor:  I'm just looking for a yes or no answer to my question please. I don't need any further explanation.

Suzanne:  I would have surely helped you if I had the information regarding this.  I hope  you understand our limitations. I don't want to provide any wrong information.

Visitor:  Ok, I guess that answer will suffice for now. Thanks

So I would guess that if the reps don't know anything about it, it probably isn't being worked on. Typically, these releases are determined well in advance and are given a development timeline. But we haven't seen any proposed dates which could lead us to believe that nothing is in the works.

We also can understand your concern for getting ICS on the Rezound. At this time, we haven't communicated official ICS release dates for other devices. If you are interested, you can check out news.verizonwireless.com for any announcements.

For which phone, ?

The HTC Rezound has its ICS update.

The Samsung Stratosphere hasn't yet as far as I know.

If you're talking about the Stratosphere, this post has links to information about the update that is currently being rolled out: https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/781047. It is not ICS, but incorporates a few ICS-like features. This suggests to me that ICS is not coming to the Strat anytime soon, but that's just a guess by a user who's usually out of the loop.
