ICS Problems with D4

I just downloaded ICS to my Droid 4.  I know ICS is geared around 4G service.  Since downloading, I have had real good service in 4G areas.  However, my 3G area service has been terrible.

I live in a 3G area and before downloading, I would have 3 and 4 bars on my service.  Since downloading ICS, I am lucky to have 2 bars.  And it is not only in my home area.  I was in an area yesterday that is very saturated 3G area.  Where I usually have full bar service.  Most of the day I had only 3 bars of service.

I know that the update was not suppose to have anything to do with signal strength.  But is it possible that it is blocking 3G to an extent somehow?

Someone please help.  I am having serious problem with service at home.  I have contacted VZM tech support.  They tried to call me and the call would not go through.  They have put in a repair ticket, but I always get the same answer from the field techs.  I live in a limited service area.

I do live in a rural area with only one tower.  But I am smack in the middle of the coverage area.  I SHOULD have and have had great coverage in the past, but I don't now for some reason.

I have tired a network extender.  My internet is not strong enough for it to work.

Someone please help.  Any suggestion will be appreciated.  Except to move.  LOL

I am having same issues since ICS "downgrade".  Only 2 bars anywhere in my house.   I also wondered if it was related to ICS.  Verizon keeps saying I must have interference.  Is your battery use also accelerated?  I used to go 24-48 hrs without charging.  Since ICS I get 2-3 hrs then have to re-charge.

This is one of the (few) cases where doing a Factory Reset really can help, after a major upgrade.  Obviously a bit of pain, but most people find that these issues disappear.

Well, I wish I had not uploaded ICS.  It has only caused problems and given me

no benefits.  Hate the black screen and dim grey print.  But once loaded you are

stuck and can't go back and can't change appearance.  Verizon support said

"We're sorry.   There is nothing we can do.  You could use a 3rd party app for

screen appearance" like I have hours in my day to search for an app!!!!!    I am

writing the head of Motorola to express my displeasure in the "downgrade".  Hate

the thought of factory re-set but may have to or trade for different phone.

I can not stand the "downgrade" to the point where I am so frustrated with it and the thought of factory restore as the only option to fix the absolute nuisance it has become.  I wish Motorolla could just push out a fix because I am about ready to cave and to get an dang iPhone.

I did a Factory Reset to my phone after the upgrade.  Phone acting up was blamed on an app that "might" have been causing problems.  Might have been.  I love that line.  When ever someone (VZW or Motorola) has an issue with a phone, right off the bat it is an app causing the problem.

I know a virus can invade a phone and a computer and such, but with all the hype before marketing, I thought that the D4 was such a secure phone.

But to answer the question about the battery life.  I have not seen any issue with my battery life since ICS.

ICS has made my D4 faster.  And some things even work better.  But maybe, just maybe they should think about fixing the bugs next time before releasing a major "upgrade".  I know every bug can't be "fixed".  I totally understand that.  But to me this seems like more than a slight problem with ICS.

Mindy.  My suggestion with the iPhone.  Please don't be a fool.  I will stack my D4 up against any iPhone out there and have on many occasions.  And even with the problems right now with the ICS.  I still take my D4 over an iPhone without even a thought.

I use my D4 daily and not just at a phone.  I watch TV.  I listen to music.  I send and receive emails.  Like any normal phone.  But I have done searches with my phone that iPhone can't do.  I have done internet things on my D4 that the iPhone can't do.  And please, all you iPhone users, don't ask me what.  I have no idea.  I don't use an iPhone.  All I am going by is using them side by side.

People have asked me to do things with my phone that they can't do with their iPhone.  And yes.  There are things that the iPhone can do that the D4 can't do.  But as of yet, I haven't found anything that I could not do without.  In the reverse.  There are things that my D4 does that the iPhone doesn't that I couldn't live without.

I did a factory reset yesterday.  Went through all the steps of re-setting up an

exhange email account, preferences, ringtones, wall paper ... then a few hours

later looked at my phone and the only thing on the screen was a blinking cursor

in a blank box with no other info.  Called Verizon and having replacement phone

shipped as they had no idea what happened, said my phone must have a problem.

This morning I figured out on my own that it somehow was now password locked

(not set up by me!) and by trying every password I had every used discovered the

password was the one for my on-line access to Verizon Wireless!

If you are having problems with ICS downgrade get them to send you a new phone.

Don't bother with the reset, you are only wasting more time.  The phone is no

longer stable.  Verizon knows there is an issue and they have decided the best

way to fix is replace the phones.  It is only a small subset that have these

issues so it is not a bug or else all phones would have the same issues.

Motorola actually recommends doing a Factory Reset after a Major OS Upgrade, at the very least a system Cache Wipe. Withhe OS Update the system can leave behind some files from the old OS and there can be some contention on the phone. Had a similar issue on my Razr when I upgraded to ICS and the Factory restore worked wonders for it.
