How to re-enable "Delete All" selection in e-mail trash folder?

Up until a new OS upgrade was sent to my Samsung Stratosphere, I was able to go into my Trash folder in the built in android e-mail application, select the "Menu" button, and there was a "Delete All" option that I could select to remove all of the e-mails that were in the trash.  Since the "upgrade", now when I go into the email trash folder, and select the "Menu" button, I can still see the "Delete All" option, but it's greyed out, even though I have 100's of e-mails in my trash folder.  There's also a "Restore All" option next to "Delete All", which is also greyed out.  The other options, "Compose", "Refresh", "Folders", and "More" are not greyed out and are still usable.  So, currently, the only way for me to empty my trash is to put a check mark next to each and every email and then delete them that way, which is a big pain.  Anybody else have this issue or know of a solution?

One solution is to install a much better email client like K9 Mail.
