How do I stop my phone from syncing with "All Contacts" in Gmail?

When I send an email in Gmail to an email address that is not in my address book, Gmail adds it to the "All Contacts" folder of my address book.  This is where my Eris is getting it's contacts from.  Is there a way that I can either A) Stop Gmail from auto adding those email addresses inot my address book, or B) Change where my Eris is pulling it's contacts from in Gmail (for example, could I have it pull only from "my contacts"?)  I appreciate any help, as my address book in my phone is all clogged up with random email addresses that I'll most likely never use again!

Open contacts and press menu, then Display groups. Choose the my contacts group.

Open  contacts and press menu, then edit sync groups. Uncheck All contacts and check My contacts.
