Home WiFi bug

Hello,

First, and foremost, before I release the issue I'm having, PLEASE note that this same IDENTICAL issue occurred on an entirely different device. I used to own a Galaxy S4 and it had, to the detail, every issue as I am having now. This would most likely avert away from assuming it's a device issue.

I now possess the Galaxy Note 4. Phenomenal device. Intimidating power in my hands. I have no complaints of the device or its functionality itself.

I am a Comcast Xfinity customer. My Internet speed is 105mbps. Blinding speeds. I've done speed tests on both my xbox one and phone. The phone is the most relevant so I shall show the results of the speed test:

Ping: 17ms

d/l speed: 58.01mbps

up/l speed: 17.32mbps

For a mobile device, that's fast. I put it to the test and in a 30 minute window was able to successfully download 754 music files while other devices were connected and xbox was streaming netflix. There's obviously no need to assume the connection or Internet itself is bugged.

Now, here's my issue. Facebook, twitter, instagram, etc. All social media/networking sites and a few others are nearly unresponsive while connected to this SAME home wifi connection. No pictures load. No feeds load. They act as if I'm running in the old 1x analog connection. For the most part they even fail to load entirely and Facebook itself claims there's no data connextion. How is that? How is it that the very same Internet connection and not be allowed to use the most used apps circling the globe?

I'm highly dependent on facebook, in particular. My work schedule is very conflicting with most of my family and friends. It's a way I can connect and share. This issue is FORCING me to disable wifi and burn my data plan into the ground! 10gb/MO data plan and I'm receiving overage charges withing a week of new cycle start. That's ridiculous. I've been a loyal customer since 2006! 9 years and I feel absolutely taken advantage of. I souldnt have had to pay any overages for over 5 months now since this issue first arose on my galaxy s4. I've researched and seen that I am, by far, not alone with this issue. Not only am I seeking to nullify the issue and any further data charges, but a review of the past data charges and see just how much this inconvenience is costing me. PLEASE help!

So, are you insinuating that Verizon is somehow making it so that these apps won't work on wifi with your phone, and only will work on cellular data?

I don't really think that's the issue. Actually, I can assure you it isn't. Have you tried these apps on a wifi network other than your home wifi?

No, I'm not accusin verizon of anything. I'm  simply stating that the data overages aren't of my own neglegence to simply enable wifi when I arrive home from work. I actually never shut that function off anymore due to amazing battery life on this device. Please do not come to that conclusion based on a plea for help. Yes, I've tried it at a Verizon store on their wifi and a local coffee shop. Also works on my mother's at her house.

I will remind anyone, this is not an uncommon issue. I've seen forum posts on Google dating from early summer last year and increasing in volume the closer I get to present date. It's also not just with verizon. Multiple carriers have this issue. I've seen the term "ipv6" used mutiple times

I just remembered one detail. Not sure if it actually Is relevant though. I tried a vpn Hotspot app. After reading a little about vpn and saw most reliable sources were paid for, I uninstalled the app. I was worried of shady business.

However, while the vpn app was running, everything worked PERFECTLY. Better and faster than ever before too.

OK, well it just sounds that way when you say that you've been a loyal customer, and now that you feel you've been "taken advantage of." But anyway, I'm not verizon, so no offense taken.

A couple tips I've found for helping with wifi issues...

Try putting your device in airplane mode, restarting it, turning on wife and connecting. See if that works, and then turn airplane mode back off. I don't know why, but this fixes wifi issues quite frequently.

If that doesn't work, you may try running in safe mode. instructions for putting your device in safe mode are easily googlable. This will disable all 3rd party apps, and that will help determine if the problem is due to a 3rd party app issue or not.

Before you do that, though, make sure you have tried forgetting the network in question and readding it. Sometimes its as simple as that.

Truly appreciate the tips. Tried them both multiple times and neither had made a difference. Neither did forgetting and re-adding network. I've been in safe mode for 40min. Not sure how this'll help me though. It won't let me access the apps themselves to test it out

What about your browser? Can you visit web pages?

Yes, all websites work through 3 different browsers. Chrome, firefox, and Internet Explorer.  Loaf without trouble whatsoever

Hmmm... have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the apps?
