I got a replacement Samsung Stratosphere and am trying to transfer my old SMS and MMS messages, and if possible my Apps and App Data from my old phone to my new phone. I don't see a way to select all or even groups of SMS and MMS messages to be able to forward them to email any way other than 1 by 1! Can I transfer them using USB or any settings to get them moved to the memory card instead of internal memory? Any ideas?
Thank you!
Rich

Unfortunately, no, there is no way to transfer any of these to SD or computer for backup purposes. There are apps that will do some of these things individually (i.e. sms backup apps), but app data will be the tricky one. Some apps with online sign-in may save your data, but for the most part, without root access, which voids your warranty, you don't have access to app data in order to save it. There are some variances to this, like the Angry Birds backup apps, but for the most part, you will have to redo everything.

That is absolutely incredibly incorrect demmo86rt.
MyBackup will get SMS/MMS and apps. The paid( but cheap)version will do everything including system settings. There are other apps that do the same but MyBackup is, IMHO, the best at it.

Thank you both for your help. The explanation about root access was helpful, as well as the MyBackup information. I ended up using TxtractLite late last night, which saved all my SMS and MMS messages to my SD memory card. I liked it a lot - easy to use, worked effectively and quickly, and did a great job storing my SMS and MMS messages. I will look into MyBackup for the replacement phone to be prepared for the next time my phone gets damaged, since saving system settings etc would have been helpful.
Thanks again!

Cool glad it worked out. MB will do all the system settings, home screens, dictionary etc etc. It's been an essential for me since OG Droid days - about 5 phones ago lol.

Will it also back up individual app data?

no. you were correct. titanium backup (for altered devices) will do the app data. mybackup pro will do most things. however, you can backup angry birds with it, but when you restore it, i believe you will be on level one, as opposed to whatever level you were on.

From your link:
Application install files (If phone has root access, this includes APK+Data and Market Links)
You do need root access to back up app data.

You're correct and I'm wrong - it doesn't get that w/o root. Honestly I missed the OP's request for app data. I was pointing out(or trying to)that everything else they wanted to recover could easily be done and by several apps.
