Has anyone else noticed this?

I have an Eris.  I am having a 3G issue and until the other day I thought it was the local tower.  When I am in an area that does not have a real strong signal, the 3G comes and goes with my Eris.  If the signal is less than two full constant bars I have noticed this issue.  Is anyone else having this problem or is it my phone?

I have noticed anytime that I am in a weaker signal area my phone will pop out of 3g into 1x more often than not. I live in an area that has quite a few inconsistancies in tower strength, but I do find that programs that heavily depend on data cause my 3G to surge, kind of like it's on demand...
