HTC Eris freezing on lock screen

I was talking about the original ROM for the Eris, not the Moto Droid.  Problem has been solved, for my daughter's Eris, though.  We returned the phone, got a new one, and she is just avoiding the update for the time being.

My Eris droid locked up on  me this morning at 6:48am....won't let me unlock it and home, menu, previous screen will not work.

Mine never freezes and I have it loaded up and use it all day long hard core. Are there specific apps you may have downloaded?

i HAVE HADMY ERIS SINCE DECEMBER 26 AND TWICE IT HAS LOCKED UP COMPLETELY WHEN I AM RECEIVING A TEXT. THE ONLY SOLUTION WAS TO REMOVE THE BATTERY BOTH TIMES.  AM NOT RECEIVING ANY SUPPORT FROM VERIZON ON THIS ISSUE.

Can't be related to any particular software, as it did it on my daughter's first Eris about 10 minutes after I did a factory reset.  I had not re-installed any software she had on the phone when it locked up on me.

It's been almost 3 weeks since we exchanged her Eris, she has not applied the MR update, and she has not experienced any lockups of any kind. 

I'll just wait for a few days (weeks) after the next update is out before jumping into that one...

My wife and myself both have Eris. Mine has preformed flawlessly while hers has had nonstop problems. It started freezing up as others have described and also not receiving picture messages. We called tech support and after about 45 mins on the phone with them they suggested returning it for another. The new one was fine for a few days but it too started freezing. I use mine more than she does and run way more apps. Just thought i'd vent/share my frustration with yinz.
