I hail from Minnesota, and have not had any "issues" pursae with my GPS location service on my Eris. Location-aware apps and widgets almost always report accurately, and when they don't, they're never more than a few miles off-track. If you have two Eris's side by side, and one reports correctly and one is way off, it's most likely a problem with that particular handset. I would be extremely hesitant to believe it's a problem with Verizon's towers unless most, if not everybody, in a particular area is affected. If it's a tower problem, the problem should not be limited to a particular model or platform.

Have you set your location, turned on the GPS (off by default I believe), wifi or 3G?

When I got my Eris it showed my location in Google Maps as about a mile away from where I was (house). After I turned on the GPS it pinpointed me at my house.
