Google Calendar

So...after three days of having my new Fascinate, which I loved until this morning, I have found a deal breaker (2 actually).. and want to return it.

The fascinate does not support the Google Calendar???!!!!! I would not have bought the phone had I know that, my fault I guess for assuming...I just switched from T-Mobile and had the G-1. I LIVED by my calendar notifications directly on the phone.....cant live without them....not thrilled that the only work around is email notifications.....so whats the deal? Anyone know if the Fascinate plans to change this?

Also, does the Droid 2 or X support it?

Also aggravates the crap outta me that I went scrolling through my contacts this morning and see 800 "reply to@....." contacts from replying to FBmessages on my phone............. %$#U&^(O_

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I have the Droid X. The supplied calendar app works with the Google calendar. I also have the Google calendar setup to sync with Outlook 2010 64bit. It's all pretty cool. No matter where I enter a calendar entry, whether laptop, Droid X or Google.com, it all syncs seemlessly.

i just wrote a blog post about my experience with the Droid X, Android and the Google calendar. It includes a tutorial about how to synchronize the Goodle calendar with the Droid X and Outlook 2010 running on Windows 7 x64. Here's the link to "An iCalendar Tale Featuring Android and the Cloud:" http://wp.me/pKU9b-2Y

Here are the steps for syncing your google calendar. As far as the contacts for facebook, the only way to get rid of the contacts will be by un-syncing your facebook account.

Gmail Synchronization - Samsung Fascinate SCH-I500

  1. From the home screen, select Applications.

  2. Select Gmail.

  3. Select Menu.

  4. Select Accounts.

  5. Select Menu.

  6. Select Account settings.

  7. Select Background data to enable applications to sync, send and receive data at any time.
Note Enabled when a green check mark is present.

  8. Select Auto-sync to enable data to sync automatically.
Note Enabled when a green check mark is present.

  9. Select an account.

  10. Select any of the following Data & synchronization options:
Note Enabled when a green check mark is present.
Note Repeat steps 9 and 10 as necessary to configure additional accounts.
    • Sync Contacts
    • Sync Gmail
    • Sync Calendar

But can you add more than one Google calendar?  My wife and I always shared our gmail cal when we were on the iPhone.  I have the Droid X which allows multiple gmail calendars but I can't add another account to her Fascinate.

Could she have activated her phone using the same account as I did on my phone to begin with?  This might help with this issue.

Try this to see if will hide your facebook contacts.

  • From a home screen, select Contacts.

  • Select Menu.

  • Select Display options.

  • Select an account to enable / disable.
Note Enabled when a green check mark is present.

  • Select a contact group(s) then select Done.
Note Selected when a green check mark is present.
  • The fascinate does not have the ability to add multiple calendars.

I don't have this phone so I do not know how to do this via the phone BUT you can share you calendar with other GMail users. I can view my boyfriends calendar on mine and mine on his. I set it to show up in different colors. When viewing my calendar on my Droid I also can view his without having to add his GMail settings to my phone.

Natavia,

I'm good to step 7. After that my new Droid X menus are like nothing you describe. Can never get to 'sync calendar.' Calendar on phone, at this point, is useless. How do I sync the calendar if I can't find it anywhwere on the phone?
