Galaxy S III playlists empty after transferring from PC to phone

Using Winamp or MusicBee, I transfer playlists to my new Galaxy S III and don't get any errors. Then, using Android WinAmp or the default music player on the phone, I can see the playlists that I transferred but not their contents, i.e. the playlists are empty.

Browsing around the phone I can see that the music files (simple MP3 files) are there. I used to think it was Winamp's fault, but the consistent behavior with MusicBee and the phone's default music player shows that it's a problem with the phone.

Does anyone know how I can play playlists transferred to my S III from a PC?

thanks,

Bob

I figured it out. It's explained at http://www.doubletwist.com/help/question/usb-connect-mode/ . These programs were counting on the existence of USB Mass Storage mode, which Android 4 doesn't offer.

I was finally able to copy a complete playlist from my PC to my S III using Winamp's wireless sync.

More details: I see that any playlists transferred from Winamp, MusicBee, or MusicMonkey to the S III are converted to a 0 byte .PLA playlist, which is apparently a Sansa thing. I still have no idea how to transfer a playlist to the phone and have it work properly on the phone.
