Exchange Services and battery drain, update?

I'm having the same issue as the people in this thread [Issue 37437 - android - Exchange Service High CPU Usage, Battery Drain since Jelly Bean 4.1.1 Upgrad...].  It seems that one potential answer to this problem is to update Exchange Services.apk to 6.5-1533254, but since I don't have root access I cannot remove the old version 4.4.2.0100.  How can I update this APK?  Even if it doesn't fix the issue it seems like the version on my device is crazy old.
