So I did read before getting the Eris that battery problems were an issue but 6-8 hours, are you serious? Is there any way to easily handle and/or see what is sucking the juice away from my battery. Thank you.

The 2 biggest improvements in battery life (after letting it completely shut itself off, recharge, repeat to cycle the battery a couple of times.) will probably be seen by turning off WiFi when you don't need it, and to a lesser extent, getting rid of the HTC clock/weather widget from the home screen so that it's not constantly trying to update your GPS location when you are inside a building.
Add the HTC WiFi widget to your screen for one-touch WiFi on/off control.
