Eris freeze after every call

My HTD Droid Eris received the update a couple of days ago, and it seems to make a huge difference in the responsiveness. As long as I don't make any calls.

Now every time I receive a call, after I hang up, the phone is frozen. I can press the power/hangup button to turn the lock screen on and off, but dragging the lock screen nor pressing "menu" lets me use the phone.  The only way I can restore function is to pull the battery out to do a soft reset. This is unacceptable.

Anyone else seen this?  Fixes?

Thanks.

I have 2 suggestions to try, unfortunately the 2nd one is pretty drastic compared to the first:

1.  Go into Market, click on the "my downloads" button at the bottom and see if any of the apps you have installed have updates available for them.  Sometimes an update requires the authors of a program to provide an update to their programs.

2.  The other thing to try is to go into settings, security, and select "Factory Data Reset"

This will do a complete wipe of your system, returning it to "out of the box" condition, back up any data and pictures you have that you want to keep before you do this.

You will need to sign into your Google account and all once the reset is done.  All your contacts, gmail, calendar etc. will automatically re-sync once you sign into Google.  Any apps you have purchased will be able to be re-downloaded once you sign into the Market... In fact, any *purchased* apps will show up under your "my downloads" in the Market, however it will *not* keep track of free apps.  You will have to go back out and search/download those again, so you might want to write down what you have installed that you want to re-install.

I think one of these two will solve your problem.

I have owned my Eris for less that 24 hours, and it  already has froze up!  I too, had to remove the battery to bring it back to life.  This is the exact reason I dumped my BlackBerry, except it took over a year before I had those problems.  24 HOURS! - that just not right!  Now, I'm going to have to wait 40+ minutes to get service at the Verizon store. But, I'm not going to keep a phone that has this problem so quickly (& I haven't had the time to add any extra software that may be the root of the cause.).

Total Bummer!

There is a great deal of discussion on another forum about this, it appears the frequency of occurrence since the recent OTA update is growing very rapidly, hopefully VW is listening.

I did the manual install (downloaded zip/USB install) of the Eris update and I did have one lockup in the past 48 hours or so... no issues with lockups after every call and besides the one lockup, seems really good.

Maybe the OTA update wasn't the greatest and corrupted some applications. The manual update actually wipes out the phone and gives you an out of the box OS with the updated firmware.

Doing a factory reset may help if there was OTA update corruption....

For the record, I ordered my Eris the night of November 5th, when it first became available for sale on Verizon's website.  I think the only time my phone ever "froze" was one time when I couldn't get the lock screen down.  I could drag it and drag it, and it would go partway down the screen, but would get stuck and not go all the way.  The power button still put the phone to sleep and woke it up, but I couldn't do anything else, so I had to pull the battery.  Never had any lockup issues after that, not even after my OTA update from several days ago.

On the other hand, I did suffer some during the OTA update, in that it trashed the SD card, and I lost all data on it.  There wasn't a whole lot on there that couldn't be restored, except some pictures which I hadn't backed up, and they were very important to me.  I guess that'll teach me to backup my data regularly.  Oh, also, after one reboot, the mobile network was disabled for some reason, but I flipped the toggle switch to re-enable it, and it came right back and has been fine ever since.

My daughters started freezing on Sunday an hour or so after she updated.  At first it seemed to be just when unlocking the screen, however it's started doing it at other times now too.

Tech support suggested replaing the phone when I called on Sunday, but haven't do so yet.

Since the lockups are becoming more frequent for her, I'm going to take the phone back for replacement and make sure that the store does NOT apply the update.  I'll just have her skip the update until a fix for the problem has been released.

I don't know about the update as it loaded the day I bought the phone, but I can tell you that both Eris' I purchased for Christmas freeze at least once each day.  At first, it was after a phone call (couldn't end call), but has happened at all different times since then, even when first waking it and even when locked.  I installed the app killer at Verizon's suggestion and it hasn't made any difference.  If they don't come out with a fix before my 30 days are up, I may be forced to exchange.

I've had 2 lockups since I did the manual update on Dec 13th. I did have 1 lockup prior to the update as well. However, this isn't anything abnormal as my Env3 locked up about once every few weeks also.

Once a day is a bit extreme and I do believe that the update included some "fix" that is causing the lockups. I know HTC will fix the issue and I also think getting rid of the Eris is a mistake as it's by far the best phone I've had.

For those having alot of lockups, try doing a complete factory reset or applying the manual update (if its even possible?).

These lockup issues seem isolated, my wife and I both purchased the Eris prior to vacationing in Florida over Thanksgiving. I used and learned much about the phone in less than a week. The Sunday after we returned home both of our phones had the update notice, I proceeded with the update and the only negative change that I noticed was a lacking in battery life ( but not that much of a change ). We didn't loose anything off of the SD card and neither one of us has had our phones lock up. Sorry to here about so many problems about the Eris, I'm just glad our phones haven't been affected like everything I read about.
