Eris - Running out of memory due to large mail (75mb), also 2-3 other annoying problems.

Hi,

I've had my Eris for a few months and love it.  I have noticed though that all of my programs are slowly getting larger and larger.  

I clear the caches but that doesn't do much.  I don't dare to clear the data thinking that I am going to have to reprogram everything.  My mail program, which includes an ActiveSync account and my gmail (the gmail app hasn't been able to sync for a while so I set it up as IMAP in mail program) has slowly grown to 75mb.  Other programs getting big are Facebook at 9mb.  My emails are only keeping 3 days of syncing according to the settings.

I have the Taskkiller app but that doesn't accomplish that much either.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  I sometimes get the msg that I need to free up memory before opening a photo and lately when I take a video it doesn't save it.

Also the following 3 things are bugging me....

1) The gmail app shows a message waiting to sync but never does.

2) I am unable to play YouTube videos in the app.

3) I am unable to receive MMS photos from iPhones and a few others I believe.

While I love this phone there are issues that are growing and it is difficult to get help either from Verizon or HTC.  It is also difficult to find cures to these problems on the internet as I have tried.

I have downloaded maybe 20 little apps and pretty much run everything manually.

Hi Eris Man. Well, it seems that the largest problem that you have, is that the lack of Rom located in the Eris. You see because you're running on the Sense UI, it takes up a lot of space internally.

My best suggestion is to make sure your SD card is properly put in, and if you can, save any files that you recieve externally straight to the SD card. There are certain applications such as FB (Well I'm on a Droid so it's a native app), that you cannot do much about, however, if it's getting bad, I think you should delete a few applications. I find Memory For Lemmings to be a very useful app when trying to save space.

Also, delete your text messages, these take up internal space and will eat at the performance of your phone.

• If you try to go to Menu>Settings>Accounts and Sync (since you're on the Eris it may be different), and check if you're correctly syncing your Gmail account.

• Not all YouTube videos will be able to play on the Eris/Droid. One good example (and to my disdain until I downloaded it through iTunes), Lady Gaga's Bad Romance will not play on the Droid or any Android device. If, however, *every* video will not play, then I suggest clearing the cache *and* data.

• I recieve MMS messages just fine, and send them just fine as well. It could be because of location and/or your or your friends service.

Does anyone know what would happen if I hit the clear data on my mail application?  Would it delete the entire application or would it just clear everything off my phone?  Would I have to set everything up again with my Exchange server, etc.  And would it delete this emails off from my Outlook by syncing?

A better question would be is this a good strategy if I have to do it every month???  What I don't understand is how the mail memory is growing every day when it looks as if it is only keep the past 3 days as I have set it to do?
