Does anyone know if/when the HTC Droid Eris can expect to see an OS upgrade? I've been noticing in the app market that developers are starting to create apps that aren't even capatible with the "old" OS. Thanks!
I'm wondering too. It seems to be immanent. I'm about ready to purchase an Eris but I'd like to start right off with 2.1 instead of having to re-juggle everything.
Even if we see the 2.1 release tomorrow, we have to assume that any Eris devices shipped within the next month or two at least will still be 1.5, right? So it's a d/l straight to the phone to get the upgrade? We'd get a message from Verizon or something like that?

Well first and foremost, we really don't know when the Eris will receive the update from Google and HTC. When messing with custom UI's (Your Sense UI, MotoBLUR, Touchwiz, etc.), it becomes harder to implement an update that was created for stock UI (myTouch 3G, G1, Droid, Nexus).
Hypothetically, were you to receive the update tomorrow, people who bought an Eris the next week would open the box, be on 1.5 and shortly thereafter (about a few minutes to maybe an hour or two) they will receive the update.
