Droid Razr Maxx HDMI cable connection error

My phone started randomly showing a HDMI cable connected even though there wasn't one. Now it is also randomly asking for me to select dock type, and is rotating the screen. It also randomly blanks the screen when I am unlocking the phone. Any way to correct this on a phone that's a few months old?? I see that there are also others with this problem but I didn't see a fix.

Hi Murchkey
I never like to hear our customers are having issues! Let's dive into this and get this fixed! Do you have a HDMI cable? If so, please insert and remove it.

Let's rule out an application causing this issue. Please power the device in safe mode and retest. Here's how:http://bit.ly/QfA8MZ

Please let me know if the issue persists.

Tried the HDMI cable insertion/removal already to no avail.

Issue is still there in safe mode. All problems began with

upgrade? to newest version of operating system. Is there

a way to reload the previous version while all the bugs are

fixed. Did Google use the same programmers as Obamacare?!!!

A factory reset might be worth the trouble. It will clear out any leftover code that might be related to your issue. It won't revert to the previous OS, but a clean install of the current version.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

It's temporarily behaving this morning so I will leave it

alone to see if it remains functional, but so far so good.

Good behavior lasted about an hour and it's back to doing weird stuff. I

got fed up and

did a hard reset back to factory settings and I still get the HDMI cable is

connected when

none is, so I guess the phone is the problem. Since I can't go back to the

old operating

system I need a phone that works since it's my business phone. Where do we

go from here?

I want to ensure you're able to use the device within its full capacity without these error messages popping up. When working towards a resolution have you toggled the device from HDMI mode? (Menu>Settings>Display> HDMI Connection) Please test.

Numerous times and it hasn't helped.

That's unusual after a hard reset murchkey. When did this start? When did you complete a software update? I'm not showing a new software release in the past couple months. Did you retain the same apps after the update and also after the hard reset?

The only apps after the hard reset were those loaded by the operating

system.

The phone immediately went back and forth with the HDMI error after the

reset.

It then behaved for a couple of days and then started doing the HDMI errors

again

yesterday. I had loaded two of my old apps per day to see if they were

causing or

contributing to the problem. After the HDMI errors yesterday, I unloaded

the most

recent app which was Adobe reader, and the phone has been ok for a couple of

hours. I will see if it behaves for a couple more days, but I doubt that it

will. Since

it's a random error, it will probably reappear.
