Droid Fever. Need your opinions.

So, with all the droid phones that are currently out and the new ones that are coming out.

How good/bad are the droids really?

Yea they seem to be the new thing on the market, and a lot of people say they suck, and a lot say they are good.

I just want some honest opinions on what you think?

Yea they are "PROBABLY" (yes I said probably since I've never owned one yet) phone on the Android system right now. But that does not always make something the best, but with everything they are capable of, Are they really?

I really like my Eris (and it's the low end model that's not even offered anymore) though, to be honest, it is my first smartphone so I really don't have anything else to compare it to. I love the customizability and have had no problems except for a couple bad apps. You just have to remember that it's a phone, not a high-end PC. If you push it too hard, it can go south on you in a hurry. You'll hear a lot about battery drain and lag. These are caused by making your phone do too much and never letting it rest. And task killers are not the answer.

Sorry about the mini-rant, I just get sick of hearing so many people complain because they don't know how to use their phone.

K. Done. Have fun shopping.

I wouldn't say many of the Android devices on the VZW network are bad (with the exception of the Ally/Devour. I don't like those.).

I will say though that because they're so many of them it's hard to choose. I've had both Android devices and the coveted iPhone and I can safetly say I enjoy Android more. It all depends on what you want, to be honest. You'll always have fanboys on either ends of the stick that'll say (insert OS/Phone) is worse than (insert OS/Phone).

Personally however, I prefer Stock Android devices over anything else (The G1/MyTouch/Motorola Droid) because they get updates faster, and they are just better looking to me.

Another big thing that you may be concerned with is getting updates in the near future, and whether if your phone can handle them or not. If you are going to get an Android phone, I suggest putting your money into a phone that has good hardware (Such as the Droid X, despite Motorola's UI over it.), as that will probably insure that you will have the newest updates going on.

So if you're looking for a phone that you want to fit you, look for the following answers for these:

-What do I do on my phone?

-Do I take a lot of pictures?

-Do I need a hard keyboard?

-Do I surf the web a lot?

-Are apps important to me?

-Do I like this UI on this phone?

-How does it feel in my hand?

If you're looking for something that'll last a while then I suggest:

-How fast is the processor? (If it's under 1GHz then don't get it.)

-How much internal memory does it have? (This varies depending on the OS, as you can put apps on the SD card now.)

-How much RAM does it have? (512 MB or higher is a good place to start)

-Does this phone have a custom UI on it? (If it has a custom UI then chances are you'll get updates WAYYYY behind everyone else. Stock/Vanilla Android is always one of the first ones to have their updates leaked/given out via OTA)

All Android devices can more or less do the same thing. You need to look for a device that you will be content with, and only you know what makes you satisfied. :smileyhappy:
