Droid Eris 1.6 Update

I have read many messages saying that 1.5 for Eris was hitting OTA Dec. 11.  It is not the 20th.  Anyone seen it?  I did get 2.01 on my DROID but 1.6 has been nowhere in sight and I see nothing recent about it.  Plus one last comment.  No Bluetooth voice dialing still sucks. They should start a DROID CAN'T add at Apple.  Can't do voice dialing over Bluetooth, can't reliably connect to wifi (biggest offender is it doesn't even work with Verizon;s FIOS routers).

The OTA on Dec 11th was a maintenance patch, not an upgrade. The Eris is scheduled for another patch on Jan 22nd. Some have rumored that Jan 22nd may be the 2.0 "upgrade", but its probably just another maintenance release for bugs.

The Eris will get Android 2.0 in 1st QTR 2010 either way.

Correction, the Eris will probably get the 2.1 android upgrade in 1st QTR 2010. It''s not ever getting 1.6.

Here's another correction.  The current press releases state that the update is coming for the Hero (which should include the Eris as well) in the first half of 2010, not necessarily the first quarter.  Hate to say it, but it could be closer to summer before we see it.  =(

I could be wrong but I thought I saw a statement somewhere from VZ that it was coming 1Q, but Sprint's official release said 1H of 2010...

I'm sure I didn't see the official post or release, so take it with a grain of salt, and it might have been someone typing it in a forum like here with the wrong info, but I do remember the post/article I saw mentioned both the 1Q for the Eris, and the 1H 2010 for the Hero.

VZ stated 1Q of 2010 for the Eris update which is supposed to be 2.1.  I just switched to Verizon and Eris is ok but has some quarks.  I have till mid Jan. to look at getting another device.

I suppose anything's possible.  Just knowing Verizon's track record of promptness (took 6 months from FCC approval to release the Omnia II, for example), I tend to expect release dates to be later rather than sooner, and if they show up sooner, I tend to worry more about quality, wondering if something was rushed.  But hey, that's just the pessimist in me talking. 

Honestly though, I do hope for a 2.x upgrade soon.  Many of the additional features could be very nice.  I just hope all the apps and games I know and love will be compatible once the upgrade arrives.

Well I believe Verizon is irrelevant to this conversation.  The question as to when we will get 2.1 or whatever comes down to when will Google finish it, (currently it is in testing and refinement) and when will HTC and Motorola get it ported over and pushed out.  Verizon has already tested its delivery system and it appears there weren't any issues they are just the delivery system they don't have anything to do with the updates.

Yik. I hate the sound of sooner rather than later. I'm really looking forward to getting the Eris but I don't wanna buy it unless it has Google Maps Turn By Turn Voice Navigation. I know that shouldn't be the sole reason to buy a phone and it isn't for me but it is one of the main reasons. I like it because it's sleek, touchscreen, has a nice quality camera and it's a smartphone. I've never owned a smartphone. Main reason is because I've been hesitant about the whole data plan. Was gonna get a blackberry storm but I heard they don't a free navigation. Gotta cut this short but I'm willing to wait because I really don't want them rushing something out and it not be good. I'm all about quality over quantity.
