I have owned the DNA since December 2012 and have never had a problem with it until I updated to KitKat. I run stock everything (including Sense 5.5) and am not rooted. I do not have any other launchers installed.
About a month or two ago, my device started shutting itself down at random. It seemed to do it mostly when the power was around 50%. Today I discovered that my lock screen has no shortcuts or notifications on it. I also cannot swipe it to left to reveal options for adding widgets. When I went into settings > personalize, there are no options visible for lock screen options. Nothing under display, security, or accessibility settings either. Where did these options go and why? I liked the stock lock screen. I did not do anything that should have changed the basic functionality of my device.
I have Googled high and low for any other examples of this problem and nothing came up. I've seen that others have had different issues since the KitKat upgrade, but I have not noticed the same issue as mine. Is it just my phone? I really do not want to have to do a factory reset, but if functionality keeps mysteriously and randomly disappearing, I may have to. Somebody please help!

Oh, and another thing: long press on the home button no longer brings up Google Now. In fact, it does nothing at all. Regular press on the home button still produces expected results though. Will this actually be what finally drives me from Verizon?

Hello mkmandel!
I'm so sorry to learn of the issues you've experienced on your DNA since the update! Let's troubleshoot OK? I've checked and what you're describing is not a known issue with this device. One thing that resolves many issues after a software update is a master reset. Please give that a shot and let me know how that goes: http://vz.to/1kbGX0Z
Thank you,

HTC Technical Support responded first and recommended the same thing. I did the hard reset and have spent the better part of the day reconfiguring my DNA, but so far so good. It's so odd that these problems just started randomly after the device functioning fine for several weeks after the KitKat update. Very frustrating to have to do the hard reset and lose almost all of my configurations (thankfully I knew enough to have Google save as many of my settings as it could and backed up my contacts, messages, and personal dictionary before resetting). I will update if the issues come back. Fingers crossed...

Well, it's been about three weeks since I was forced to do the hard reset and the random shut downs are back. Please do not tell me that I have to do another hard reset again. That answer is both ineffective and unacceptable. I had no problems with this phone until the KitKat update. I should also note that the battery level reading is erratic after a random shutdown; sometimes after I start back up, it will be down to less than ten percent, then it will shut itself down again, and the power will be around 50% when I power back on, even though the phone was not connected to a charger. The shut downs also do not happen when the phone is plugged in to a charger.
From reading this and other forums, I am not the only person to have new problems develop after the latest update. When will Verizon and HTC push out an update to fix this issue?

mkmandel, I do apologize for any inconvenience this my have caused. I want to make sure that we do everything that we can to get this back up and running like the way it should. Is there any kind of physical or liquid damage to the device at all? How long have you had the HTC DNA? Do you have a lot of 3rd party applications downloaded on the phone?
One thing that I would also suggest on trying is placing the phone into safe mode for a few hours to see if the problems still happen. The way you can do this is in detail in this link: http://vz.to/1ki9wKn This will put the phone in a diagnostic state. This will determine if a third party app is causing your device to run this way.
Please keep us posted.

From what you've written.. it sounds like you could have battery issues and you are attributing causality to the KK update, but to me, it seems like a battery that is maginal.... Unfortunately, the battery isn't easy to replace is it? If it were, I would be trying a new battery... But I think on your device it would take special skill to replace.
Did you load up your device with downloads? Any special app that you use a lot that might be consuming resources?

Sorry, another thought. How are you charging the device? Perhaps try using a different charger... Perhaps the battery isn't getting charged fully. Tough problem.

I started having the same problem with my DNA about a month ago, and like wise it is happening more frequently, actually it just happened about ten minutes ago which is when I decided to look up forums. I noticed after one incident all my keyboard word saves were reset. II have insurance so iI can just call for a new one, but I'd rather not. I like this one hairline crack and all. By the way the crack is 4 months old, problem is one month old. Would like to figure out why this is happening. Minus the fact reset.

hill.joshua3, thank you so much for the details on your issue. I want to make sure that we are able to get your device back on track. Since this problem has started was there new 3rd party application downloaded to the device? Have you tried to place the phone into safe mode? Also, are you using the charger that came with the device? Please keep us posted.
