On my Droid 4, I consistently get the following from my Voicemail app - "Network error Data connection not available. Please retry when connection is restored"
The options are "Try again later" and "Call *86" The latter works fine, so there is a data connection, and I can directly dial *86. I've searched this forum and the internet and not found a useful suggestion, although a number of people seem to have analogous issues.
Any suggestions?

Dialing the voicemail number (*86) uses the voice network and not the data network. Do you have an active cellular data connection (3G or 4G LTE) when you attempt to retrieve your voicemail through the visual voicemail system?
I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

Grossrm, let's make sure that you can access your voicemail. Do you have the Visual Voicemail feature on your account?

I do not use Visual Voicemail. I have no trouble accessing voice mail by
dialing *86 from my cell phone.

Then that is why you have been getting the error message while using the Visual Voicemail app.

The app worked until a couple of weeks ago, without Visual Voicemail. Did
you make a change and not tell us?

Thanks for the info. I'm not aware of any changes being made. When you press the Voicemail icon, are you pressing the option to tap to call voicemail or are you receiving the error before seeing that option?

It immediately tries to call voicemail, then gets the error. I can find no
way to change the settings.
If there are any under Voicemail, access to them is blocked by the error.
When the error times out,
I get the option to "Try again later" or "Dial *86". I can do the latter
faster straight from the phone dialer.

grossrm,
Fantastic details. Well, I say we jump into a little troubleshooting. For this sort of issue, I recommend going to settings > apps > all > voicemail > clear any cache or data and even force stop. Then restart your phone and test. Please keep us in the loop on results.

Tried it twice - still the same message. However, it used to take over a
minute to return the error message, now it returns it immediately.
