Droid 4 Problem in Guatemala

Before leaving the U.S. for vacation in Guatemala, I asked Verizon what I had to do to my Droid 4 Global phone to call the U.S. while I was in Guatemala.  I was told just to prefix the 10-digit U.S. number with +1.  When I got off the plane in Guatemala and turned on the phone, I immediately got a text saying that my phone wasn't set up for Guatemala and asking if I wanted to change to Guatemala standard.  When I said "yes", I was told that my SIM card was changed appropriately.  I now can't call the U.S. with +1 or 01 or 001 as prefix, but I can call a Guatemala number by prefixing it with +502.  When I try to call a U.S. number with any prefix, I get a Spanish recording informing me that my number is "numero incorrecto." Can anyone tell me what happened to my phone and what I can do to get it back to being able to call the U.S.?

Try dialing 001, then the area code and number.  The first "00' is the exit code for Gautamala, then "1" is the country code for the US.

Maybe try 502-00-1 and your number.

Thanks for your suggestions, but they both got the same recording I

heard with all the other attempts: "numero incorrecto"! I'm getting

resigned to being unable to call the U.S. while I'm in Guatemala. I'm

even concerned that the change that was made to my SIM card will screw

up my calls when I return to the U.S. It looks like a visit to my

local Verizon store will be necessary in my near future!

Hello normanglick,

We certainly know how important it is to stay connected while traveling globally. I'm glad to see that you made it to Guatemala safely. I'm eager to partner with you and get your service working there. May I ask are you using a Verizon sim card? If not then I would suggest reinstalling your Verizon sim card for service. If you are using a Verizon sim card then please advise do you see our logo/name on the banner of the main screen. As you share the details then we can get this resolved for you.

Thank you...

The sim card in my Droid 4 Global is the same one that was in the phone

when I got it at the Verizon store. I have not changed it myself. On

the other hand, whatever happened when I turned on my phone after

getting off the plane in Guatemala, it appeared to change the program on

the sim card. I have had no trouble using my phone to call numbers in

Guatemala, but I have to preface the local number with +502. But

nothing I've tried to call the U.S. gets anything but a recording saying

my number is "numero incorrecto." I know that at least Verizon can text

TO ME from the U.S. because I've received a text about my Verizon bill's

being available online since I got to Guatemala.

I have to confess that, if the only way I can fix this problem while I'm

in Guatemala involves removing the sim card, I'll probably wait until I

get home to talk to someone at a Verizon store. I don't feel

comfortable with the hardware, and I don't want to do anything that

might make me unable even to make calls to Guatemala phones.

I'm also beginning to wonder if I should have done something to the

phone before I left the U.S. to prevent the problem I'm having in Guatemala.
