I have a droid 3 and it overheats constantly. Today I installed a widget to give me the temperature on the phone, it reached 120 degrees after being on the phone for 18 minutes. I worry about the internal of the phone at that temperature and my skin. It is hot enough to burn. Also that temperature was with the back off of the phone, who knows how hot it would have gotten if I wouldn't have removed it. Any ideas on how to fix it??? Or is it time to move away from Droid, this is my 3rd phone Droid 3 now. My last one the keyboard went stupid and the one before that wouldn't hold a charge even with a brand new battery.

Hi christa721,
Let's get to the bottom of this! Have you recently downloaded any new applications? Has your phone been exposed to any physical or water damage? Are you using the manufacturer provided charger? Try removing the battery for 30 seconds and retest the temperature. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Are you watching Netflix with it plugged in or using the hotspot feature? It is not normal for a phone to get slightly warm like that..I would try using a different charger, factory reset and format the sd card since you said the battery is new

AyaniB_VZW,
Hi. I added Temple Run 2 and the battery temperature widget the other day but other then that no nothing new. No damage to the phone and no water. I am using the manufacturer charger. I have two chargers and a car charger. I have taken the battery out because usually when it overheats the phone freezes and leaves me no other option but I will get the temperature the next time I do that.
Thank you for trying to help solve this. I like the phone but it does have issues.

I don't watch Netflix on the phone. I mostly only play games. No hotspot usage at all. The phone is probably two months old now but it did come with a brand new battery when I got it.

The phone is still having problems. Today it reached 122 degrees after playing a game. The worst part is the battery doesn't feel that hot, it is the lower part of the phone below the battery. It is hot on the metal bar that holds a card in and the area to the left of that when looking at the back.
I need a solution to this problem and it looks more and more like I need to leave the droid and switch to the Iphone.

Well I went to Verizon to discuss my phone and informed them of the temperature that reaches and the fact that the plastic under the cover near the battery is melting - they told me I am out of warranty. I can buy a new phone or I can wait til my upgrade is available.
I like Verizon but I am concerned that no one seems to be bothered by the fact that the phone reaches 120-125 degrees while in use. It's not the battery that gets hot it is the metal by the SD card that gets hot.
I will keep working to find a solution to this but it isn't looking good, hopefully the phone doesn't catch on fire before I can get it fixed.
Any ideas????
