Droid 3 Battery Life issues

All,

I've already gone through 3 Droid 3 phones and my battery lasts for less than 1/2 as long as my old Droid X on the stock battery and I'm running an Extended battery in my D3. I have CDMA set as the wireless mode and I have done factory resets and battery pulls, everything. I can't find anything that is using up the power, and the phone shows Cell Standby and Cell Idle as the battery killers (both average nearly 45% of the total usage in a day). This isn't right, and I expect Verizon to do something about this. Bear in mind that this post is coming from someone who has 3 years of Android experience and worked on the Cyanogen Mod project briefly. --

My question is, is anyone else seeing this problem? I have tried just about everyhting I can think of (short of removing my corporate synchs to two exchange servers, as I must have these for work) and seem to be out of ideas. I am wondering if there is something in the corporate synch code that is keeping the radio on all the time. For instance, today I lasted 13 hours 43 minutes on battery and that took 70% total of the battery. Phone idle and cell standby accounted for 89% of the total battery usage in that time. Anyone got any thoughts here?

PWn3r, thanks for sharing your issue with your device. I understand the need to have a long-lasting charge on your phone. First, I just want to share some of Motorola's battery saving tips for the Droid 3. I have not seen poor battery life reported for this phone. What types of applications do you have running in the background? Do you use any task killers or antivirus programs? If so, I would suggest removing those. Also, I just want to make sure I understand your second post. You said after almost 14 hours, the battery had lost 70%, so you were at 30% is that correct? Was this with normal use, making/receiving calls, text & data?

Marquia, I have implemented the battery saving tips from motorola and they extended the battery life by about 2 hours. You're correct after 14 hours my battery was down to 30% remaining. I do not have any task killers (other than the motorola one that is on the phone and I cannot remove) or any antivirus software on the phone. The only applications that I have running in the background is circle battery (because motorola doesn't show battery down to 1% increments) and beautiful widgets for weather. I believe the problem is something with corporate synch as my fiance doesn't have a battery issue with the same software but she doesn't use the exchange synch.

knights66,

Sorry to hear that you, too, are experiencing issues with holding a battery charge!  I would be happy to assist.

Few questions first, do you have an Exchange email account setup on your Droid 3 as well?  Do you have any Antivirus applications installed on your Droid?  Have you adjusted any of your device settings to maximize your battery life?

Let me know so I can further assist.

My Droid 3 battery life is not as good as my old Droid X. It started out horrible, then after a day or so it began to noticiably improve. I've had the phone for a month now and in the last week or so, it has gotten steadily worse.  I uplugged yesterday morning and at 4:00PM it was at 50%. I charged it for 2 hours and unplugged it with 92% showing charged. By 11:30 PM it was completely dead. No, Bletooth, Wifi or GPS were running. I hope it gets better.

I have had some serious battery issues as well. I am surprised that verizon has not heard of this issue since its ALL over the web. I too experience the high levels of cell standby and cell idle. Most days I unplug my phone after full charge and it can be minutes and it will be down 10%! a few hours into the day with little use and we are at 50%. I just can't believe when I hear verizon say this is not a known issue.

So to the orignal poster-you are not alone. And I don't run anything special on my phone-I do check my gmail email and my FB and occassionally play a words game but I am not streaming content, I am not heavy gaming or heavy use-especially during the day. I get a signal just fine at work so its not "searching".

hope they fix this soon....

I have had my Droid 3 for all of 5 days. I had a Droid 2 Global prior and had decent battery till the last update. I went from a 100% charge to 0% in 7 hours. I had already known how to max out the device and make it run well, but 7 hours on light to moderate use SUCKS! I have an extended battery and am trying it to make sure it is not a bad battery, but on my first day using the extended battery, it wasn't losing juice any slower. I know it takes a few days to really adjust, but even after wiping the battery stats, same issue.

Maybe a bad phone, but if the Op is saying 13 hours is bad, what is half of that?
