Download and Read Books on Droid

I bought the Droid so I could download and read books as I did not want another device to carry around for e-books.  The salesman downloaded iReader into my phone, but I have no clue how to use it and how to download books.  Can anyone give me instructions for this?

Thanks.

I would suggest that you either call Verizon or go back to the store where you bought your phone & have them help you with this.  I'm sorry I couldn't help you but I didn't want you to think that noone had read your post.

This is the web site for the application: iReader -- a e-book reader for Android. There is a link labeled Where to get E-books.

Thanks for responding.  I already went back to Verizon and they told me I had to call Verizon tech support.  I called them and they told me I had to call Motorola tech support.  I called them and they said the Droid could not read books.  I'm a little frustrated and feel like I'm just not speaking with the right people.

Use the link I provided to visit the iReader web site. In addition to a list of sites from which to get eBooks there was also documentation.

In addition to the reader you have on your phone, you might also want to check out aldiko book reader (Free from the market - plus a paid version).

The selection of "new releases" for "purchase" isn't all that great, but they have a HUGE selection of "public domain" books for free - Classics like Jules Verne, Mark Twain, Homer, Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker, and thousands of others.

Aldiko

Word Player

Shortcovers

I had some others but deleted them if that tells you how good they are.  If you read for fun Shortcovers is great.

Soon to be on Android supposedly.

Barnes and Noble

Kindle

A few other big names that I can't remember off the top of my head.

I want to be able to download the latest bestsellers and read them.  What is the best method for doing this?  Some of the sites I've visited don't seem to offer the latest books.  I am not very tech-savy so I need specific instructions on what site(s) to visit, what software I might need to download and how to purchase and download the actual book.  The sites ask for you to choose the format you want to download.  I tried this once already, paid for the book and downloaded it into the droid.  I chose the format for mobile readers.  After downloading the book I got a message that my device did not support the book as my resolution was too low.  It showed the first page of the book with the title on it, so I know it downloaded at least a part of the book.  Now I cannot even find the book on my Droid.  I'd like to start over and do it right but don't want to keep wasting money purchasing books I can't read.

I appreciate any help you can offer.

Thanks,

Marge

the only one you are describing is the one i suggested above.

it is directly connected to Fictionwise.com which is owned by Barnes and Noble.

Granted the version is still in beta mode, i have had no problems with the app

you can buy ebooks, about 90% of todays bestsellers, which should increase soon, and you have access to your bookshelf via your Droid.

i currently have The 50th Law, D-Day, and Lone Star: A History of Texas and the Texans

now it is in now way equal to my Sony PRS-505 but  it passes the time away and as soon as i complete my Sony Reader Books, i plan on making my Droid my primary reading device, just simple that way.
