I have an android with hotspot. how am i using my data while I am sleeping? how is my phone using up all the GB

Could be apps updating, unless you have automatic updates turned off.  Could be Facebook updating, e-mails syncing.  If your phone's hotspot is turned on and your computer connected and on, the computer could be updating.

Im switching to another carrier. US Cellular has unlimited data for only $40 per month.

ok and where are you going to use you "unlimited data " in there store the have almost 0 towers that arent worth the $40

and then also with the gb being used mine uses some at night as well and all it is is programs updating from the app store so nothing to worry about

You have many apps on your phone that if not disabled or an app installed to change how it uses data will use Data at night as well as all day long. VZ Navigator, Backup Assistant, MyVerizon, Slacker Radio, and a host of other apps. Facebook is a huge consumer of data.

In changing the attributes of how an APP uses data you can regulate how much data is used.

example, on my phone MyVerizon would use 300 MB per month. Backup assistant would use 400 MB per month, Slacker, VZ Nav, Slingbox would use another 250 MB per month and I use NONE of these apps. In disabling and regulating the way these use Data I am able to save 950 MB right off the bat and use it for the apps I actually do use. When I did this on my phone for all of the apps and only let the apps that were necessary for the phone to operate, and for the apps I use to operate I went from 5.5 GB per month to under 1 GB per month of usage. The rest are either disabled or only use Data when connected to Wi-Fi.

Im having such an issue the past 3 months. Ive had my droid 1 and now 3 for 5 yrs. I have 150mg cause all i can afford and I never use it. the past 3 months Ive gone ove and ive done nothing different. Friday I was on the phone with them for 40 mins and she told me all things thing run even if they are not showing. DIDNT KNOW. but I only added 2 new apps in 3 months. I unchecked all my data stufff. made sure I only use wifi, and agaon overnight used 3 mb. its syncing overnight no option to stop it. on the phone yesterday for 30 mins again. OH AND IM GETTING SPAM LIKE CRAZY FOR A COUPLE MONTHS. so I deleted every app evcept the one it wont let me... on the website it says check box to stop spam and emails, I even stopped getting my google emails. and today I woke to find i STILL used 3 mbs and got 2 new spams.. they have red stars or crosses and show up on notifications. she today suggested that i to go the store and have them restore the phone and see what happens.... UGH.. I cant affored this crap..

they told me click force stop on apps too, itll stop them from running for no reason

Hi gibacc27. From day one i turned off mobile network on my phone (droid incredible 4g lte). I use wifi 99% of the time. The 1% of the time i use mobile network is when i'm not stationary and i actually need to use the internet. And because i do that, i haven't even come close to using half my data allotment.
