Does this mean that the note 2 can't be used as a hotspot for a laptop, or does this not affect that?
Thanks

I have used my N2 as a hotspot for my laptop and tablet. It worked very well and was actually much faster than the hotel internet last week.

Speygeek,
Thanks for posting the info on using the GN2 as a hotspot. I do a bit of traveling thru out the yr. fishing tournaments & use my laptop to pull up info on the water, & weather where we're fishing. The plan is to get the GN2 in the next wk or so, however, between 1 of the guys @ work giving me updates on how his is doing & reading the discussions, I want to make sure there's no major issue w/ it, concerning how I use my phone. I don't want a repeat of what I dealt w/, w/ the Droid X.

I'm having the same issue connecting a RAZR MAXX HD to a Win 7 machine. I have 2 Win 7 computers and neither recognizes it. I tried everything I can think of, including as one person suggested turning on debugging. I downloaded the latest drivers from Motorola with no luck. I'm running Jelly Bean.

I was in the same boat. Could not connect my laptop with the Note 2. Checked the manual, watched useless videos on the Samsung site (BTW, currently, the only thing you can download is the manual). KIES does not work, USB connection does not work, unfortunately my laptop does not have bluetooth capabilites, so that's out. There were a few other irritants concerning the Note II which annoyed me. I brought my Note II back and switched it for another phone. If anyone comes up with an answer, please post it.

Present situation allows phone to connect as media device and to add and
delete files from and to PC.
Here's the setup and lol I have no idea if all steps are important.
Control panel --> add remove programs -
> remove all Kies programs,
remove the samsung driver.
reconnect the Note 2 by usb cable. I seem to remember some irritating
messages but just waited till it connected. Swipe down on the top of the
phone and pick connect as a media device.
Go to my computer and hopefully you will see SCH-1605.
Good luck.
Forgot Kies for now.

If there are the same problems with both Samsung and Motorola then the issue is with Android. Motorola's support website shows the most current version of Android as 4.0 but they're rolling out 4.1.

Nope! I have 4.1.1 and no connection. Please give me back my "Mass Storage" selection and I won't say another word.

You need to talk to Google. UMS is no longer native to Android as of 4.0.

Shut down your Note 2. Connect theoriginal usb cable to your Note 2 and computer. Restart your Note 2. Windows will detect the device. Will automatically install the drivers.
