Charging

My daughters Galaxy S5 started having a message saying "this connected charger is incompatible with this phone. To prevent damage to phone charging has been stopped. To continue charging use the original charger and cable that were provided with this phone". She is using the original charger. Anybody know what could cause this?

Cwills33,

Charging a device is super important to it's function. Let's see what is going on here with her S5. How long has it been giving this message? Did anything change on the device before this started? Any software udpates or new apps downloaded? Does she get the error when using a different charger (car or wall)?

Look at Settings/System Update and see when the lollipop update took place. Chances are good you started having charger issues around the same time; had the same problem with my S5 and G2. Have you tried plugging your phone into the computer? Have you tried a different charger? Restarting the phone?

The EXACT same thing has happened to my daughter's phone 2 nights ago.  NOTHING will charge her phone anymore -- and it all happened within 2 days of upgrading to Lollipop. I honestly think a factory reset will fix it, but I can no longer get any charge to the phone to power it on to reset it.   I have ordered a new battery, cradle charger, charger, and cable (wanted to cover all bases) from Amazon and everything will be here later today.  I'll let you know if anything helps.  As reluctant as I am to factory reset her phone (she has more crap on it than any normal person should), I think it may fix the problem, but I need to get a charged battery first.

Similar issue with my recently updated S5. The latest Verizon software update adding 2 new, but useless, features to Lollipop software appears to have caused the issue. My phone was activated around November 2014. My Father's S5 is several months older & my wife's was just activated a couple months ago. Neither of them have installed the new software patch and neither has an issue.

My phone will intermittently reject any charger - including all OEM Samsung S5 USB 3.0 chargers, my Moto car charger & simple USB cables to PC. Requires a reboot at minimum & possibly a full shut down with battery removal for the issue to resolve temporarily.

Wishing I never installed Android 5 - lost 24 hours of battery life at that moment too.

It was the battery.  I got a new battery and everything is fine.  The phone charges with any cable and charger (like it should).
