I need help deleting an item from the gallery on my Samsung Stratosphere. It comes up seperate from the photos & videos. It has the date I took the picture under it. In the left bottom corner it has what I can best describe what looks like a shutter icon. It isnt a photo or a video. Unlike the photes & videos it dosen't give me a delete option. Any ideas anyone? I cant find this icon anywhere in the book or website.

Ann is probably right on this (as usual!). A shutter-like icon sounds like Picasa.
When I first got my Stratosphere I was mystified by some of the pictures that were appearing and could not be deleted from the phone no matter what I did. Then I discovered that they were being synced from my Picasa online albums. Since Picasa belongs to Google, Google's Android operating system "naturally" assumes that you want to sync your Picasa albums to your phone, and sets up that syncing by default.
Do Home > Settings > Accounts and sync > Manage accounts, tapping your Gmail account. There it is possible to select or deselect Google Play Books, Contacts, Gmail, Picasa albums, and Calendar. If Picasa is checked, uncheck it, and I'll bet the unwanted pics will disappear.
BTW, it's inexcusable that the people at the Verizon store would wipe your phone (3 times!) to try to solve this. If they don't know any more about the products they sell than this, I'd look for another store. Of course, if you're not in a metropolitan area, you may not have much choice. Maybe the next best solution would be (assuming unsyncing Picasa works) to go back to the store and educate them.

The icon you describe in the corner of the preview sounds like the Picasa or Google+ synced photos.

I want you to enjoy the convenience of managing those important photos lesliegc1! There should be three folder options in your gallery, your memory card, your camera photos(from the device itself) and one called downloads. Did you download a picture from a website or app? Have you tried selecting your menu key as soon as you open the gallery, before you select a specific folder or picture? You should be prompted to be able to delete photos by clicking a checkbox on the picture under the specific folder. Please let us know how the device responds.
Sincerely,

I'm still unable to delete this item. For example, after pull up gallery, two items come up. top has camers, shows i have (14) pics. with a small camera icon in the left bottom corner. 2nd item has the before metioned item. has date it was created "2012-12-30 (1)" under the photo. in the left bottom corner has the shutter icon. after i push menu the delete option comes up, i select the bottom pic, get a green check mark, & then the delete option goes away & I'm left with 2 options. share & more. I have tried everyway possible & cant figure out how to delete this. Any more help would be great

Anything with the shutter icon in the bottom left corner is photos synced from an online source either Google+ or Picasa.

You have to turn off the Google+ photo sync. Check your account sync settings or look in the Google+ app itself.
