OK i want to get my son a Droid Eris for his birthday, but i don't want him to have access to the web just yet. However, i do want him to have access to email and the Android store. Is there any way that i can get just the internet blocked?

I think you can be able to block the internet features from a specific phone.
The catch22 I believe that it will block every aspect of the internet available to the phone. Meaning the Market and E-Mail as well, and, as I recall, there isn't any app to specifically block a certain app -- there would be loopholes around it anywho.
Just as a question, and partially because I'm curious -- you want to get your kid an Eris, fully functional but with no interweb features? Is he 12 and can't explore theh lollernet just yet or?

Not that I'm aware of, no. Not selectively, anyway, not on most smartphones unless they have some sort of parental control facility.
Moreover, access to the Android store would be sort of pointless in such a case, since the Android store contains many apps that can, themselves, access the Internet (or, indeed, have to access the Internet).
Some more generic phones have plans available that are just email, where you go through some proxy the wireless provider has that only allows you to connect to various e-mail providers. But it wouldn't be terribly practical on a smartphone.

Yeah, i know it sounds weird, but i do the same thing w/ his ipod touch and hes 100% ok with it. I use the parental controls and block safari. The block on the eris would only be temporary though, just til the end of the year, then i will let him use the net.
