Can I add a line to an Android off-contract Nationwide Talk Share plan?

We need to make some decisions regarding our Android cell phones in the near future.  We have the Nationwide Talk Share 1400 plan (1400 minutes, 500 text messaging, and unlimited data) which has been off contract for more than a year.  we haven't upgraded because we didn't want to lose our unlimited data feature.  Between the two of us, we are using anywhere between 3 and 5 GB per month.  Our monthly payment is about $184.

We are thinking about adding a line to our current plan for a family member.  Can this be done if we are not in a current contract?   If so, how is it coordinated  How much would it increase our monthly bill?   We would probably purchase a basic phone for this purpose.

Or, would it be more practical to obtain a replacement for one of our existing cell phones, then give the existing cell phone to the family member?  If so, can this be done without entering a new contract, how is this coordinated, and how would it affect our current monthly bill?

But, we are also considering the idea of giving up our Androids and going to basic phone plans as $184 per month is quite high when thinking about ways to save money as we  enter our retirement years.  What would a basic phone and plan run, approximately?

Thanks.

daisymay53,

Help has arrived to make sure that you make the best decision possible to help save you some money!

Although your other lines are no longer under contract, you are still able to add an additional line of service. While on your current plan, the cost for this extra line on your current plan will be $ 9.99 tax a month if on a basic phone. If you choose to activate an existing phone on that line no contract is required.

If you decide that you would like to purchase a new device at the discounted rate when adding this line, a new two year contract will be required for that line. If you decide you no longer want smartphones on your account, you can certainly activate basic phones in their place and will help save $ 29.99 from each line the data package is removed from. While having basic phones active, the data package is not then required.

Please keep in mind however that once the unlimited data feature is removed, it can no longer be re-added in the future.
