Bluetooth disconnecting on Samsung Stratosphere?
SouthParkSteve

Hello all!

I have a Samsung Stratosphere, and I use a Plantronics Voyager Pro + Bluetooth headset with it.  I have been having trouble with the phone not connecting to the headset if it has been idle for a while, and I have even had the Bluetooth disconnect in the middle of a call.  It will NOT re-establish the Bluetooth connection unless I totally restart the phone--something I obviously don't want to do in the middle of a call.

Has anyone else had this issue?  Any suggestions for me?

I'd appreciate any help!

Thanks!

Steve

Hi SouthParkSteve,

I feel your pain; I use my phone all day and I depend on my Bluetooth headset for hours. I can just imagine the inconvenience of having to power off and on to reestablish connection constantly. I checked my resources and I learned that the Samsung Stratosphere is not listed as a fully compatible device for the Plantronics Voyager Pro+ and while most Bluetooth devices will have some connectivity for using the same Bluetooth technology, please note that connectivity is not guaranteed for device not listed as fully compatible. Please confirm this compatibility information at this LINK as the only Samsung mobile devices fully compatible with your headset on our network are the Omnia II & Continuum as per the Plantronics website.

To avoid compatibility issues in the future and be able to take full advantage of your devices' Bluetooth features going forward I recommend confirming compatibility of your devices before purchasing.

My wife and I both have samsung stratospheres and motorola hx550 headsets, both phones will drop headsets without warning or loose pairing, requiring anything from a shutting off the bluetooth software to restarting the phone. Is this the same problem you discussed with southparksteve?

OK, here's another question: Verizon sells the Plantronics Marque M155 here. There's a device compatibility link there, and it shows the Stratosphere as compatible. However, the Plantronics Web site, to which Antonio linked, does not list the Stratosphere as compatible. So who is a shopper supposed to believe?

I don't think this is limited to just a particular headset.  I have to restart my phone nearly every time I try to pair with any bluetooh device.  Everything from my Sony DR-BT50 headset to my ELM327 OBDII scanner.

It is the most frustrating thing about this phone.  It has gotten to the point I don't even try to pair it unless I reboot.  I just click restart if I know I am going to want to use a bluetooth device soon.

I too believe this, jdwk...I have had it connected to my car's in-dash bluetooth, and it often times will work fine, but there are a few times during the week (randomly, of course) where it either will A) not connect altogether, B) appear to be connected but then not be able to dial through the bluetooth voice commands or C) will attempt to dial out, fail and shut down, and then I attempt again and it succeeds, but so much so that it then "remembers" to make the original call and now have TWO phone calls made at the same time.

There must be something Bluetooth-device specific about this. My car is a 2004 model, so its Bluetooth system is somewhat older. My Stratosphere connects to it without fail and has never dropped in the middle of a call. I don't use voice dialing, so I don't know if that would work, though.

Similar problem - Samsung and Voyager.  When I go to the settings and pair it, it connects to phone audio FIRST, then phone and media audio, then switches to media audio, without me doing anything.  This happens in about 15 seconds.  If I go on a call, and force it to pair, it stays connected until the call ends.  Then goes to phone/media, then media.  What I don't understand is that this worked fine for the past few months, up until a couple of weeks ago.  Any idea what could have changed?

Found a work around!!!! Hooray.  I used to have a Voyager Pro and just purchased a Voyager Pro+ when the old one died after three very good years.  I experienced the same problems that many of you experienced with the blue tooth pairing working momentarily or just until I turned it off.  The next time I tried to turn it on, it wouldn't work.  I have a Samsung Omnia II and here's what I did:

Go to Blue Tooth Settings and do the pairing like you normally would.

Once paired, go to Menu and select Device Service.

Select Hands Free and click on Options.

Scroll down to Add own PIN code and check it off, and use pin code "0000".

Click done.

And you're done!  Try this.  Hope it works for you!  It works for me.
