Beware of the 2.1 S/W Update Droid Eris - It ruined my phone

Hello All,

I purchased my Droid Eris with much happiness and anticipation in mid February of this year with the 1.5 software. Everything worked great except the battery left you a little high and dry. I googled top android apps and ran across advanced task manager which seems to help. About a week or 2 ago I got an automatic s/w update request by VZW to upgrade to 2.1 s/w I didn't do my hw b4 I dl it and i clicked accept everything and the new s/w was dl.

Since then my phone went bonkers with issues I never experienced before signal was in and out, dropped calls, the phone began lagging with all apps but the top complaint I have was the sound. I had to do hard resets (taking battery out and putting it back in) as opposed to soft resets (just turning phone on and off) about 15-20X a day!!! I kept getting phone calls i couldn't hear person and the person couldn't hear me. Also affected was the sound of the ringer / notification on the phone, it would ring sometimes or notify me, other times it wouldn't and i'd have missed calls and emails.

ANother biggie is the internet browser on 1.5 you go to a webpage and everything is the size it's supposed to be with 2.1 software all the pages you'll have to manually expand by pinching and zooming outwards veryyyy annoying!!! The reason i'm writing all this information is because i've had to suffer 2 weeks with VZW operators on the phone as well as having to run down to the local big VZW store by me to get this taken care of. I fnally got a "new" phone from the VZW store  though tt's not guaranteed that it's a new phone, the service rep told me it could be refurbished or new they dont know they get them in from HTC in a box that says certified new. My new phone has 1.5 s/w so I have my fingers crossed that i wont have any issues with this phone. I'll follow up with you guys to keep you updated but from what i've read on other VZW forums as well as various other forums i've run into online it's unanimous....STAY AWAY FROM 2.1 Software it will definitely mess up your phone.

Please reply with any comments or issues you've experienced because apparently VZW operators on the phone as well as the in store VZW team haven''t heard about any sound issues regarding the 2.1 software just people losing their contacts.

Thank you.

Stay with 1.5 !  Or get the " leaked 2.1 v3 update. That have worked flawless for me. I am not

updating to the OTA 2.1.

How did you get the leaked version? What site? Also is it safe to upload to my phone? Have you noticed any bugs?? I read on another post from a VZW specialist that at this time they dont have any update on when HTC is releasing a patch for the 2.1 software.

BTW 1.5 works just fine, i'm very shaken at using 2.1 again.

Dont install the leak. It is the same as the OTA. stick with 1.5 till they debugg 2.1, or do a factory reset on your phone after installing it.

Send me an e-mail and I'll let you know, not supposed to talk about it on the forum.

The leaked is not the same as the OTA.

I have had NO problems with the 2.1 v3 leaked on my Eris.

I too have 2.1 v3 leak and have had none of the issues. The leak is not the same as the OTA because it is 30meg bigger.

Leak v3 IS the same as OTA. This has been proven through checksums by people much more knowledgeable than myself. There have been lengthy discussions about this on androidforums, XDA, and androidcentral. The only reason it's bigger is because it's the full update and not just an update. I have the OTA update and have had almost zero issues. I have also stopped using a task killer as it was causing more issues than it solved. Add to that a factory data reset shortly after the upgrade, and I have an amazing phone that I absolutely love. As far as the sound issues go, that it something that shows up on some phones and not others. The general consensus seems to be that it's a hardware issue that woke up with the update and was happening on all three leaks. The only solution seems to be a warranty replacement.
