Battery almost dead after limited use - less than 10 hours off charge

I've have my phone (Samsung Stratsphere) off the charge for less than 10 hours and my battery is almost dead. I have hardly touched it all day, limited email checking only. I was one of the people recieved the dozens of blank texts from Verizon a few weeks ago and the customer service people messed with the settings a bit, like the back up assistant.

Right now the biggest drain on my battery is Cell Standby - over 30%, then Andriod OS - almost 30%

What can I do to save my battery? I've had to charge it twice a day, and I just got it in Jan 2012!

force it to 3g only and don't use 4g unless you need it (streaming video or downloading large files, etc). 4g crushes the battery.

It's a known fact that smartphones don't have amazing battery life. The Stratosphere especially, since it's both 4G and a keyboard phone. 10 hours is actually pretty good for that phone.

Some things you can do to save battery are turn off syncing when you don't need it. Your apps will sync in the backround therefore draining your battery life.

You can set the brightness all the way down. Samsung phones use AMOLED screens. Amazing quality, but a huge battery drain.

As AZSALUKI said, turn of 4G when you're not using it. It's a massive battery drain as well.

Turn off settings such as wifi, bluetooth, and GPS when you're not using them. They will be searching in the backround and pull battery life.

There's not a lot more you can do. What I usually do with my 4G phones is but an extra battery or two and keep them on me. You can usually get 2 extra batteries with a charger for $25 on Amazon.

I bought an extended life battery for my Stratosphere when Verizon had them on sale. (See weight and size pros and cons on this battery here: https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/768086.) With moderate activity (including background syncing), it can go a couple of days before needing a recharge.

Verizon doesn't seem to have these anymore, but Amazon has some for $30 (http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Extended-Battery-Stratosphere-Sch-i405/dp/B0067MFB3Q/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF...), and they're available elsewhere online too (http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&q=samsung+stratosphere+extended+battery&safe=active&sqi...). Be aware, though, that you have to get a new back cover for the phone at the same time (the extended battery is thicker and heavier). It should be bundled with the battery, but not all online sellers do so, so you have to check carefully to be sure it's included.

My husband has a Stratoshere and quickly learned that 4G standby drains the battery, as he also is a "light " user. What he has done to extend battery life is to enable data only when he uses it. He now consistently gets 2- 2.5 days off one charge. That is another option if you don't want to buy an extended battery.

Thanks! I'll give some of these a try and see if it helps. Smiley Happy

I do have wi-fi off and bluetooth as well. I don't use bluetooth at all...

Before they messed with the settings I was getting 20-24 hours off of a nightly charge. My husband got the same phone on the same day and he has not had any of these issues and he is on his a lot more than I am on mine.

I have a Strato and usually get 12-15 hrs on the battery.  I only have GPS and bluetooth disabled.  Other functions continue to run.  Surf the web off and on all day.  Check email couple dozen times a day and send and rec txt throughout the day.  Not sure what service I am getting because the phone rarely says anything.  I'm suppose to be in a 4G area but only see it when i'm in the middle of Toledo.  Wife has a Revolution and gets 4G at home while i don't even get 3G.  Maybe that's why my battery lasts so long.  3G or 4G or whatever i'm getting doesn't seem to affect performance.

Bumping this thread. Having the same problem of poor battery life. I've had my phone for 10 months now and the battery life has actually been really great until a few days ago. This past 10 months I could go nearly 2 days without a charge, 4G on and everything. Now, even with light use, its pretty much dead in 12 hours. Nothing has changed to my knowledge either. Its very annoying though...

Hi j_knight102,

I'm glad to see that you were getting almost 2 days on a single battery charge, this is certainly uncommon with a Smartphone. While battery life is always subject to personal use and habits, I find that most customers must charge their Smartphone daily and heavy users (like me, guilty) must charge their Smartphones more often. Please share your phone model and I will provide some tips specific to you phone to extend battery life.

I do know its uncommon, but I am a very light user. And I was usually charging overnight. But absolutely nothing has changed. If anything, I am using my phone less. But less than 12 hours after it comes off of the charger, my battery is completely dead now. I clear emails/Facebook alerts (not even getting opening up the app, just clearing notifications from the home screen), send a few texts, and maybe a 10 minute phone call and that's my normal usage. I don't think my battery should be draining nearly that quickly with that type of usage. Especially since that's what I was doing before and getting much longer on a charge. It just changed from one day to the next, literally.

I have a Samsung Stratosphere. I got it at the end of December last year and up until this battery problem, its been a fairly problem free phone. I was having mobile data connectivity problems for some time, as was my husband on his Stratosphere, but that seems to have been resolved with the recent software update.
