I used backup assistant when I had an LG Voyager. Is that available with the Droid?

OK, Supitsmike, If I'm hearing you correctly, then my contacts in Gmail should be the same as my contacts on my Droid. I tested it and modified someone's phone number then went into my Droid and manually made it sync again. That worked! Fantastic!

But it still doesn't solve the problem completely, because there are names/numbers in my phone that are not showing up in my GMail contacts.

Really?

That does sound odd. Give it a few more minutes, maybe an hour and see how it responds. I would be surprised if it only syncs one way, as I never had an experience like that.

Actually, now that I think about it, when I got my first Android phone, it should sync it to your Gmail. I know this because I never had used Gmail prior to my phone. So whenever I had put a new contact in, it showed up in my Gmail.

Check if the new people share the same names with your older contacts. Sometimes, when Gmail Syncs them up, it shares the number under certain names that are the same.

If you're talking about contacts, then all you need is the gmail account you created. It stores all your contacts and stuff in there, so that just in case if you ever lose your Phone, need it replaced, etc, then you can always retrieve those contacts once again.

Where would I find them? I do have a GMail account, have for years, and have over 200 contacts there. They don't seem to be updated with info that I used to have only in my phone. (Does that make sense?) so where is the backup data going?

Also - do you have any idea how I can get rid of the duplicate contacts? For instance, I had a friend's contact phone numbers in my old phone. And on Gmail I had about 4 emails for her. Now in my contacts on my droid I have 2 entries in her name, one with the old phone contacts and one with all the Gmail info.

Any idea how to fix this?

And Supitsmike... you rock for helping all of us out! Thanks so much!

I dont think there's a Android verion of backup assistent....yet. However, if you login to your Verizon account, you can export your contacts into CVS format and then import them into Gmail.

First off, thank you so much for noticing. I do it for the love :smileyvery-happy:

Alright, let me give you an example; My email is xxxxxxxx@gmail.com. I used that Gmail at the beginning of my using my Android phone. Because Gmail and any Android phone syncs up with each other, within minutes I had all my contacts saved in my phone, and it will continue to be that way for every Android I use when I set it up with xxxxxxxx@gmail.com

I'm aware of the multiple contact issue, and the only way that it can be remidied without itbothering you in the future much would be to manually go into GMail and clean it up a bit.

I know it sounds absolutely wretched now, but just on your free time try to look at your contacts and fix them up, it's worth it at the end.

If your phone is not Syncing up correctly, try using the Power Settings widget, and check to see if Syncing is enabled (It's the icon second last to the right, looks like a circle with two arrows). If it's not enabled, enable it, and restart. Also, check to see if you are using the same Gmail account with all your contacts.

If worse comes to worse, do a factory reset on the phone and start all over.

{mod note: email address removed}

OK. I'll keep working on it. I've got a lot of nicknames and crap goin' on, plus I have facebook friends in here to contend with. I'm going to mark this solved because I imagine it will help others out.

Thanks again, keep it up, there is so much stuff on here that I still can't figure out!

I can definitly see that being a problem.

Go into your Gmail, sort them out, give them a last name with their first letter (I.E., Mine would be Mike R.), see if that clears things up.

The Facebook thing only probably makes it much more confusing.

Edit: And, if you ever, ever need help on anything post about it or message to any of us! That's what we're here for!

i used back up assistance and exported a csv file from verizon's backup assistant site, then imported the csv file into my gmail contacts. backup assistant will go away a few days after you upgrade from a dumb phone to a smart phone so you have to hurry if you want to do this.
