Apps that come preinstalled on the phone

I have a Droid Charge.  I realize that a lot of the apps that come on the phone can not be uninstalled.  But is it possible to make an empty folder and move all of the ones that you don't want into that folder, essentially rendering them invisible?

You can delete the icons for the apps you don't want to use from the homescreens.  Not sure if you can sort or organize the App Drawer to "hide" the apps you don't ever want to see.  A third-party launcher from the Android Market will allow you to hide those apps from the app drawer, but you also will not be able to access specific TouchWiz UI feature on the Droid Charge.

I'm most definitely NOT a VZW employee. If a post answered your question, please mark it as the answer.

That's exactly what I did on my Samsung Stratosphere, squeekster (and I assume this works on other Android phones, though I don't know for sure). On my phone, I tap Applications on the Home screen, then tap Menu and select New folder. I give the folder a name and tap OK. Then it offers me the opportunity to just drag app icons into the new folder. If you come back later (and this is a key part, which I usually forget), tap Menu again and select Edit. That makes the icons movable, and you can move them from one Apps screen to another, or into any folder you've created. I called mine Unused (being diplomatic, I guess), but you could call it Junk or Crapware or anything you want.

Apparently, the Charge is different.  I click Apps, then menu and the only two choices I have are a different view (grid or list) and Edit.  But no "new folder" choice.  Smiley Sad

Bummer. What happens if you tap Edit? Does it offer a new folder possibility?

When I tap edit, I can't honestly see that it does much of anything except that it puts a "-" sign on the downloaded apps.

Applications preinstalled on the device can not be removed or even accessed to be disabled or hidden because these apps are listed ass system apps and are restricted from being accessed....  You can use apps like ADW Launcher or Launcher Pro and hid them from the app tray but this wont disable or anything, it will only hide the apps from the app tray..

Yes, this is what I see on the Stratosphere too when I tap Edit: a "-" sign, and the app icons have kind of a partial box around them on the top and left. That means that they can be moved around on the screen (or from screen to screen). But if you're not seeing an option to make a new folder, alongside Edit and List view, when you tap Menu, it may not be possible on that phone.

HOWEVER, I'm a newbie and not a Charge owner, so hopefully someone with more experience with your phone may be able to chime in here with a definitive answer. You might also try looking at http://www.chargeforums.com/forum/droid-charge-forum/.
