Android 2.1 Coming Later This Month?

It seems the BGR has hinted that 2.1 will be coming to current Android phones later this month, read here... http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/01/12/android-2-1-sdk-released-to-developers/ Keep those fingers crossed! Think its true or just a writer saying something to get discussions going?

We are getting 2.1 for the Droid and Eris... that's old news brother

Yes I knew that but I never expected to actually come in the FIRST month of the FIRST quarter. Usually these updates are dragged out to the latest possible moment. BRING ON 2.1!!!!!!!!!!!

2.1 has already been dropped into the SDK so it can't be much longer.

HTC has had 2.1 for well over a month now and HTC was porting 1.5 to 2.0 way prior to the 2.1 SDK release. I'd wager that HTC has the 2.1 port completed and is in the early stages of QA.

I'll also bet that we're getting the already scheduled 1.5 patch fix on 1/22 and we'll probably see 2.1 in late Feb or early March.

The most popular rumors point to a Monday, January 18th update, per a Verizon IT Rep, who stated that: "all [Android] phones would get the 2.1 treatment and that the Droid would get a maintenance update." That doesn't mean that it will come in 2 updates, though. 2.0.1 is basically a stripped down version of 2.1 (both Eclair). The Maintenance Release might just be 2.1. He could have said it that way to cover his butt in case they haven't fully ported it by the 18th.

My guess is that it drops before the 22nd like the first MR that was released early. Start looking out for it on the 18th (Monday). Maybe not (complete) Flash support, but 2.1 is coming very soon. HTC and Google have both stated that once 2.1 was released (yesterday was the SDK, I believe) the Droid (and Eris) would get 2.1 updates shortly after. I think they may be implementing that new Sense Espresso UI. We can only hope and speculate 'til the rumors come true, I suppose.

The Droid would be quicker cause it is a vanilla.  HTC has had the 2.1 for a while but they were building it for the Nexus 1 so it might be a minute before they finish building it for the Eris.  They haven't been building 2.0 for a while they said they were but probably what happened was Google hit them with this opportunity and so they held out to drop 2.1 in.  I find it odd that it is 2.1 but not the official next release just a major update.  I am more interested in Flash i think.

I've only ever used stock Android UI primarily on my phones, and used other UI phones for about a week. I've learned since the release of Android, when Google releases an APK update to developers, the stock Android users always get it quickly.

It's just up to manufacturers and developers from Moto/HTC/Samsung to release the update with their custom UI on it to their consumers.

We'll get it withtin the next week or so I suspect.
